Wow, I hope you are on the mend and feeling better! If you had to have more surgery, Johns Hopkins is the best place to be.

I have not checked this board in ages but I thought about you all today when I found a 1" piece of stiff nylon thread...like fishing line...near my incision site. I guess they forgot to take something out when they were closing up!

As for menopausal stuff I hate that I am getting thicker, darker hair everywhere except my eyebrows and eyelashes (which are thinning and lighter.) Grrrrrrr.

Hi reDish, what a find! Menopause creates all sorts of changes. Dsska, I hope u are doing alright now. I'm now almost halfway thru treatment, radiation is done in 6 days. Chemo resumes in July.

Have any of you had your hormone levels checked since your surgery? Just wondering....

About 6 weeks ago, my body and mind went berzerk. I received hormone testing results back yesterday and discovered that my progesterone, DHEA and Cortisol levels were low enough that they weren't even on the chart (meaning, they didn't even make the low range). This was causing heart palpitations, unexplained anxiety, weight gain (a small amount that only I could notice), incredibly low energy level (was requiring between 8-12 hours of sleep every night) and zero sex drive. OH, and did I mention horibble crazy psycho mood swings???

My test results showed I was perimenopausal...I'm only 31. AND I kept my ovaries. Talk about a slap in the face! I started Bioidentical hormones yesterday to get this fixed asap and am hopeful that within 30 days I'll be feeling tons better. After this experience, I am hopeful that other women who have hysterectomies are aware that even if you keep your ovaries, you can STILL have major fluctuation in hormones after a partial hysterectomy!! My doc told me I would have NO change....boy was he WRONG!
Thank god i found this post, kept my ovaries as well and feel exactly like you, got bloods done last weekend and hoping for results on friday. Never felt so tired and also really bad ache's in my bones and muscles.

Hmmm. I had thought I was recovering quite well. Just need some time to get my energy level back to what it was. I kept my ovaries so was under the impression that I would not have hormone effects. Guess I better go get my levels checked. Might explain the lower energy level. Sure glad the bowels are back to almost normal though.

Glad most are over the hump of recovery. The hormones are in issue; patch helps but have noticed skin and muscle tone issues, even w working out. I did run a respectable 10k, first ever, on Memorial Day. Having the surgery was a revelation in realizing the importance of getting back into, and staying in, shape. It is up to me for sure, and I feel so much better challenging this 54 uear old body and seeing it respond! Not having periods is a revelation. It doesn't seem quite real yet somehow ... I hope everyone is moving towards resolution w surgery fall out. I had been worried about bladder/ urethra discomfort but it gradually dissipated, thank goodness. Blessing to those completing chemo and secondary illnesses/surgeries. There is a finish line just ahead, so keep walking towards it, ok? All best! C
