How long will the surgery take?

I am having LSH with one ovary being removed also. I know everyone is different, but barring any complications, approximately how long does this surgery take? Wondering if it's okay to have my hubby go out for something to eat while he's waiting. I don't want him to be gone if the doctor needs him for anything. Thoughts? Thanks!!

Re: How long will the surgery take?

Have him asks the nurse or dr. before you go in.

Saying a prayer for you that all will be fine.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

They gave my husband a beeper. That way he could go out to the pizza place across the street. I also had him bring the laptop as he gets bored easy and has zero patience. : ) I know men need their food or they get crabby.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

I'm having a dvH, and my doctor said it should take about 2 hours plus another hour in recovery. My husband works 5 minutes from the hospital, so he is going to go to work and the hospital will call him when I am coming out of recovery, or in the event of an emergency.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

The beeper sounds nice. I hope my hospital does that. We're leaving for the hospital a little after 6 am to get there by 7 am and he won't have time to eat before and doesn't want to eat in front of me either since I will be starving! Thanks!

Re: How long will the surgery take?

I am having lsh and my dr told me it takes him about an hour and a half. Not planning on ovary removal for me. But also said it will take longer if there is a lot of endo to remove. He also needs my husband available if any changes need to be made to our surgery plan once he gets inside and sees what he is dealing with. The area in my hospital that dh will be waiting in has a little cafe , maybe youts has the same?

Good luck.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

The actual surgery will probably take about 2 hours. However, before surgery, once they take you back and get you settled in a pre-op room then he will probably have time to go eat BEFORE you actually go to surgery. I was in a gown and on an IV for about 3 hours before they actually took me in the OR. That was a little extreme, though. The OR was behind schedule.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

Mine took about 1.5 hrs with about 1 hr in recovery. They had hubby's phone number in case. He actually ran home for a bit while I was still in preop. Most hospitals have a cafeteria so if its just food, he can eat there.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

My no complications dvh took 2 hours 1 hour in recovery. They did say mine was easy, if there were problems it could have been up to 4. My husband brought a bunch of snacks too.

Re: How long will the surgery take?

I was wondering the same, and the replies here confirmed my thoughts on about the time frame.
