Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 13-Feb 19,2012

Day 12 for total laparoscopic hysterectomy with large fibroid removal. I had same day surgery and only real problem was my blood pressure was ver low and pain killers wiped me out. I wasn't in alot pain so stopped the oxycodone on evening of 2nd day hoping it would help me poop. I pooped on day 4 and pooped all day, ugghhh. Everything else has been progressing along I'm still not my normal self but have been really good about not pushing myself. I've been reading, needle pointing and watching a ton of movies.
I was feeling really good this morning and was going to go to the gym for a steam shower when I felt like I was peeing on myself and looked down and was gushing blood. Called my dr and they said it was normal, blood gets trapped when they stitch you up inside and needs to be released. It scared the hell out of me and really wish they had given me a heads up about this. Luckily I didn't ruin a bed or couch but my bathroom was a bloody mess

Holy Crap! Cthoya, that would have scared me to death!! OMG! My doc never mentioned anything like that. I have heard from here, though, that we can get increased discomfort and bleeding when the internal stitches start dissolving.

Must have done too much yesterday morning. And I actually did very little. Either way, I had increased soreness yesterday and was spent today. Took a 3-4 hour nap this afternoon.

The only exercise that I've really done is walk. How long of a walk are you ladies going on? I didn't do anything yesterday except walk around the house and schlep myself up and down stairs and I am insanely sore today.
I need to get outside and get some fresh air and walk but my son is sick and this may sound dumb but I'm afraid to get too far away from the house by myself so my husband and I can't leave the poor sick kiddo home alone:/
How long and what are you guys doing for exercise?

And at this point, that's perfect. If you're sore after it, that's a sign that you should probably be doing a wee bit less.

Some of you are approaching two weeks post-op, some one - you are all very early in recovering, though it may not feel like that some days.

For what it's worth, here was my experience in the first few weeks (and I had an 'easy' recovery in the sense that I had no complications):

The first few weeks post-op were basically just me napping and wondering why I needed to sleep just hours after having a nap. This is what my day looked like, every day, until around Day 21: Wake up, walk to kitchen for breakfast, eat - in bed, nap, read, nap, loo break, nap, read, nap, walk to kitchen, snack, loo break, nap, read, etc. Repeat every day. I went on my sundeck for fresh air, but I did not go out anywhere (excepting one urgent visit to my GP two days post-op to deal with an allergic reaction to my steri-strips).

When you're feeling tired or exhausted, remember that fatigue is your body's way of making sure you rest. No one gives us a prize for healing 'fastest', and healing right is the best reward possible!

10 days after TAH, feeling really well.I had 24 staples removed Wednesday I fretted over having them removed but it wasn't bad at all. I experience that I tire quickly. Over all my recovery I feel is going good.

I had my surgery on Feb 14th, Valentines day. Not very romantic. I went in that morning at 7am and they immediately started preping me for surgery. There was a cancellation so the doctor was ready to go. I was rather nervous since everyone was rushing around to get me to the surgery room. They also gave me a spinal block and that is all I remember until I woke up. I was on toradol (sp?) and Demoral. I had a lot of gunk in my chest after surgery and was given the breathing device (forgot the name) to help open up my lungs. I stayed the night in the hospital, dont remember much from that day. I do remember having nausea very bad and was given a patch to help. I got to go home the next day around 11am. I was able to get up and walk around and after removing the cathider I was able to pee on my own. The doctor sent me home with 50mg demoral and phenegren for nausea. I kept a moist heat pack on my abdomen and a pillow pet for safety and comfort. By thursday I stopped the pain meds and took only ibuprofen when needed. I did need some help getting out of bed but once up and around I walked around some. I did have problems with constipation and my doctor suggested senokot. I tried merilax and an enama but no results. I have notice a little pressure when I pee and i have had trouble with some foods causing irritation to my stomach. I am up moving around pretty well, still some what swollen, and get tired after doing very little. I continue to use the moist heat pack and it helps a lot. I am concerned about the fact I have started a hormone therapy yet. Over the last 3 days I have started having mild hot flashes, night sweats and some irritability. Over all I feel the surgery went well and healing is coming along. I am a little impatient and would like to be able to do more.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 13-Feb 19,2012

wow I was not told either of these. I had some bleeding the day of the surgery and that was it, had no clue to expect future bleeding nor was I told that pain could increase with stitches dissolve or more bleeding. I am currently 11 days out from surgery is this something that should have already happened or something to expect soon?

Slayer 429, I am post op 8 days...TAHBSO. I have 65 staples...my belly is so swollen yet and it really bothers me also...I also get weird twinges like in my side or under my ribs. Still not moving my bowels right...and my mind also wants to do more than my body can...very frustrating but comforting to know I am not alone.
