To all my "sisters" I really appreciate all of you and sharing this adventure with you. My mom, who had her ovaries removed two years ago (post menopause) has been kind of not understanding about my sleepiness, etc...I am grateful to have all of you to understand! Thanks!

I too am grateful for you and all the other sisters! :-) This has been a wild ride and I would've been lost without all of you. You are all in my heart and thoughts each day. Hugs to everyone :-D

Don't forget to check out the video for weeks 5 & 6.

You are on the uphill side of initial recovery.

For the slower healers and those who had complications....you are moving forward in your recovery and you will get there too.

I had to take a percocet today. Anytime there is anything in my colon, I have a lot of pain. Unfortunately, all I feel is the pain, so I don't know if it's something that is merely temporary. Now I feel better, but I already took the percocet. Oh well.

I have more energy today than I've had in a long time. So, I feel pretty good.

I agree about the colon! When I'm "backed up", I feel lots of pain now. I take stool softeners, but I guess I'm not eating enough to be regular yet. Considering taking laxatives instead. I guess the colon is so close to everything else that it does hurt. Hope you feel better.

Good morning ladies! As well as the stool softener, I also took a fiber suppliment (metamucil). This helped me a lot. I had to stay away from gas producing foods too. Things are better for me now, but the fiber sup. is really good and I am continuing with it. Having had "older" parents and living in a Nursing Home setting (my family owned and operated a small nursing home when I was a kid), my family was always aware of our bms! Water, good fiber really helped everyone stay 'regular'. So, if it is hard and rabbit like, the bm is painful too. If it is runny, it is painful as well. The fiber helps give it the right consistancy, kind of a little firmer than peanut butter. It cleans the colon too!
OK, when I take my 6th grade each year to Washington, DC, I always have the bm talk, because traveling, eating different foods, and the time change can really mess up our bodies. So, since I teach health too, we have the talk and it helps students get to know their bodies. Well, I look at it as a game changer for me since surgery changed things around. It is not the end of the game, but my strategy just has to be adjusted for the optimal out put to win!!!!!!
Hope for our healing and great big hugs for all of us!

Ahh, riverann, thanks! I had no idea that you could take metamucil with stool softeners!! I'll try that. Getting in high-fiber foods right now is out of the question since I'm still severely naseauted, daily. I've been taking bites of anything I'm craving, hoping to keep it down. I know I'm lacking fiber. I'm okay with the water though........ I'll try the metamucil today!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 13-Feb 19,2012

I've been told to avoid laxatives because they're stimulants, but was directed at one of my follow-up appts to take metamucil in addition to the stool softeners. I took it for about four days and it did help. Then I stopped, because I want my body to be able to do it without assistance...but I may start it up again. I'm not used to having to pay attention to my bms, but I need to nowadays! Half hour in the bathroom yesterday, long enough that my DH was checking in on me. Argh. There's also a little blood in there, tho I haven't been spotting otherwise.

One of the many things that are good about Hystersisters: I cannot think of anywhere else I would dream of saying all of that and expect an interested/sympathetic response. Thank you again.

By the way, a couple of weeks ago my mom, sister, two aunts and sister's mom-in-law threw me a no-more-periods lunch. It was sweet and silly. On one of the cards they'd all signed, they came up with a pros/cons list re: hysterectomies (including "make plans without worrying about surprises"). Mom and aunt had hysterectomies 20 or so years ago and couldn't be happier about it. I look forward to feeling that way about it too.

Jingles -

All the things you are talking about are menopause symptoms. Even though you kept 1 or both ovaries it could be that they aren't working quite right yet.

Something you can talk to your Dr. about to see if you could get a little hormone help until they catch up.
