Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012

Grace 35 - yes I identify with wanting my uterus back and I think it's understandable to mourn its loss - it was an important part of you all your life until the hysterectomy. I miss my uterus and I miss my periods - ven though both caused me terrible problems every month.

Sorry to hear about your pain too. This is so hard - everyone expects us to be fuine now and I see people's faces drop when I tell them I'm not. i've had to ask people to not ask me how I am any more... I have seen a physiotherpaist (I think that's the same as physical therapy) a few times and she is wonderful - probably the only nice person I've dealt with in my whole saga. She prescribed me a series of exercises - based on pilates and quite gentle, and also encouraged me to use my swiss ball. Its all about pelvic floor and core strengthening. I think this is all great, and good for me - but unfortunately has made no difference to my pain. I try to do the exercises every day but don't always manage it. I hope it helps with your situation - please report back on what they recommend for you. What exactly does "pelvic floor dysfunction" mean??

The prospect of chronic pain forever is just far too grim. I think we're doing the right thing trying to get help from some positive phyiological attention. Might have to try a few things and of course be patient but surely something's going to give??

Take acre,

Emily

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012

It's interesting to read how recovery is different for everyone. Someone told me not long after my op that it can take a year to fully recover - I kinda scoffed at the time but now being 6 months down the track I can see the truth in that.

I still get some pain along with 'hormonal fluctations' [as the surgeon described it to me] but when I think of how miserable I was a year ago - putting up with torrential bleeding and constant cramping - I look at it and go yep I'm going to get through this.

Hang in there everyone

J..

Hi Everyone,

This site has been wonderful and I want to thank you all for your support during this difficult time we are all going through. I am on Premarin 0.45mg and just getting moved to Premarin 0.625mg. I would as far as surgically speaking I am doing great. That being said hormonally, emotionally I am doing terrible. My dr just put me on Celexa to help with the mood swings but it makes me so ill I am not sure I am going to take it anymore. I go from happy to angry in a heartbeat without warning. My hot flashes leave me with sweat literally rolling off of me(I never even barley perspired before). My son and husband do not like the person I have become and I guess I can agree that I do not like it either. I hear things like "have you taken your pill today?" "I don't think your on enough meds", "look in the mirror do you like who you see?" etc... I need HELP! I am not sure I should drug myself into being my old me or what to do.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012

I'm almost 6 months post-op, feeling great. My surgery went well, complete hysterectomy, with NO cancer. My ONC/GYN that my regular Gyn. referred me to was absolutely wonderful, caring and reassuring. Even though it was a rough 3 weeks from my initial appointment to my surgery I know that my best interest was their priority. I was not able to have davinci because she wanted to be able to remove my softball sized, complex tumor (and ovaries) and "bag" them without the possibility of rupturing them. Also had several tumors in uterus. Biopsy was done while she did surgery to avoid possibility of second surgery to do staging (if necessary). I'm now back to all normal activities. Actually, recovery went well, hardest part was the daily injections in my abdomen to prevent blood clots (bless my husband for doing that since I don't think I could have). I finally have feeling back on the right side of my abdomen, been numb for the majority of this time. I encourage anyone who is facing the possibility of a malignancy to go to an ONC/GYN!

Prolaspe, I'm so sorry you are having these issues. Even though I'm doing OK I still do have some issues with crying for no apparent reason or for just very little reason. Thing is, I'm 61 and had already been through menopause (and had taken hormones at that time) well before my surgery, so I'm a little confused why I'm doing this. Had to back off taking care of my grandson for 4 months and felt a lot of guilt about that. No one else had issues with it, just me. I tend to be harder on myself, how about you. Give yourself a break, do something you love and above all love yourself. There is no time clock on you. You will heal physically and mentally! BIG HUG!!!!!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012

Well, I was doing well after my TAH until 4 months after surgery when fatigue, back pain, muscle aches, mild weight gain, emotional fragility etc. hit me like a tons of bricks. Apparently my ovaries are still producing hormones ( even if they weren't I am not a candidate for HRT due to being a high risk breast cancer case).

I have been having cortisol and thyroid fluctuations and am still trying to figure out what is wrong. The doctors ( more than one opinion) are not very helpful which is very frustrating.

Hopefully, my health will improve soon.

I wish you all a speedy recovery.
