Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012
Hi everyone! I've missed y'all!!!! We were having problems with our Internet so I've been out of communication for over a week.
I am supposed to go back to work on Monday and I am having a whole lot of anxiety about it. I still can't make it through the day without multiple naps and my energy/concentration levels are only about 50%. I guess we will see what Monday brings.
Hugs to everyone. Sorry I was away and wasn't here to help!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012
Checking in here.
I had a lovely evening out last night despite having some increased spotting. I had thought maybe I was done because I was finally pad-free in the early part of the week, but now I'm needing the liners again. I had more spotting last night than most of the time but it was still just brown.
My biggest complaint now is the headaches. Last night it was getting pretty bad but eating dinner seemed to make it disappear. I was so happy because I went to see "The Hunger Games" with some friends. (Great movie; the book is now on my list and I usually prefer non-fiction so that is saying something.)
I had a bit of trouble sleeping last night but eventually conked out. But this morning, I woke with a terrible headache. I had my coffee and some water and food with some Aleve and I thought that would help. When it didn't, I took the new migraine medicine the nurse prescribed for me and at first I thought it was working but my head just really hurts now. I can try another dose in two hours. I tried this med a couple night ago and it made me feel weird and dizzy. Today I don't feel that but dang the headache is bad. I may end up spending the day in bed.
I don't know if it's from hormones or what. I am tracking the headaches and it looked like before the hyster there was a hormonal pattern. Now that my left ovary is gone I am not experiencing the ovulation pain and my cervix is gone so I can't track cervical fluid it's difficult to see when I might be ovulating. I know some people track basal body temps but I have never had good luck with that method because I often have insomnia or just don't sleep well.
However, in general my body temp seems a bit more evened out the past few day so I am hoping my hormones are calming down now.
It's also very possible the headaches are still rebound headaches related to my previous head surgery. I took a single percoset on Wednesday evening because I was already on Aleve and was still getting crampy. I wanted to stem off any intense pain. It helped the abdominal cramps. But then after the percoset wore off, my head really started to hurt. That's when I tried the Maxalt and felt dizzy and weird.
I am just frustrated and confused because I feel like I am healing pretty well and within normal bounds from the hyster. My headaches don't feel like textbook migraines but the neurology people are treating them as such. I really hope that's all they are. (A weeklong headache is what prompted my ND to send me for CT which discovered the skull bone lesion.) I so hope this is just rebound headaches or hormonally induced atypical migraines.
Has anyone else noticed an increase in migraines since their hyster?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012
I have had migraines since my teen years, now 42 and over 4 weeks post-op, I only experienced one bad one this past week. I believe it had more to do with kinking my neck on my pillow, and it lasted all day.
* I just noticed that I had the same problem with Mirena IUD as you, mine was in 12/10-2/12. Irregular bleeding, 9 months of spotting and clots, and yes, severe anemia last spring. Wonder why they don't warn more about this?

I was slightly worried about spotting and having headaches as well. I guess both are normal. I never had headaches prior to surgery, and today is the first day I have spotted since Day 2 post-surgery. I really hope both go away for you!
I am also having soreness at my one incision site and in both of my ovaries as well as having emotional issues. Apparently, my ovaries are not wanting to play nice.

I've been getting migraines since surgery--but it might be because I'm spending so much time on the computer at this website!
In the past, I didn't think my everyday headaches were migraines because they were rarely those head-splitting, one-sided killers. But I was having annoying headaches lasting for days that still sent me to bed. The neurologist told me all my headaches were migraines. Sure enough, the migraine meds worked on them. But I tried several different "triptans" before I found the right one. The one you took happened to be one that did nothing for my headaches. Others worked better for me. The neurologist explained that they have different attributes. Some work quicker but don't last as long; others take longer to work but last longer. So if one particular med doesn't work, they're not all the same. It is important to monitor your first use of each kind, they say. Some people have serious issues with them. Read up on the precautions.
Rebounds--ugh. Yeah, if pain meds are taken for headache 3 or 4 days in a row, you risk rebounds. Hate those. And I usually get 3-day headaches right before my period.
One of the things I didn't think about when deciding to keep an ovary--I forgot about the monthly headaches.
I hope you're over yours soon.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012
Hi All,
I am very pleased when I found this website as I learnt a lot from all the stories and information from this site. I wait for my doctor checkup on this Friday and look forward to go back to work on the following week. Now I am still on an antibiotic and I hope no more problem after that.
All the best. Have a good weekend:-).

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012
I'm with you both - I have changed shape since my enormous uterus and its enormous fibroids have gone. One of the fibroids came up to my ribcage and that made me look REALLY pregnant. I'm still in comfy baggy clothes because of hypersensitive skin and ongoing pain, but am like you really looking forward to seeing how I look in normal, nice clothes again! Jeans - it's been over a year since I could wear them...
Thanks for reminding me of the positives. I have been crying all weekend with frustration at how much pain I still have and how helpless I still feel, all the painkillers I'm still on... it's been getting me down. But looking forward to wearing non-maternity clothes is a joy!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Feb 20-Feb 26,2012
I am 32 days past my davinici surgery. Last night, after dinner, my stomach started hurting and I felt a bit gassy and swollen, so I changed into very loose clothes and took some stool softener and senna, bc I thought I might be a bit constipated. Woke up this morning still feeling bruisy in my abdomen, but not as bad as last night, so I went to church. We were planning to go out for lunch, but the pain has increased and has especially settled in my right abdominal area. Not sure what to do, other than rest at the moment (and drink a lot of water in case I am a little dehydrated...I went back to work last week, so my eating and drinking schedule has changed). I don't want to go to the er if I just have gas, but I also don't want to be stupid and not go if something is really wrong. Argh. I guess I will wait and if it gets worse or doesn't go away soon, I will go in. Sigh.
