Hysterectomy with ovaries left intact - symptoms of a period?

Dear Sisters,

I had a hysterectomy (cervix and uterus) on February 7, so I'm 15 days out. I still have my ovaries.

This is the time of month when I would normally have had my period. Forgives if the following questions are dumb, but if anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it.

Is it possible that I could retain water/gain weight during what used to my time of the month? I feel like I've got bloating and weight gain like I did prior.

Have any of you had cramps around the time when your period used to be?

What about zits, cravings, and mood swings? I also got zits and also feel like I had some cravings and such.

Do you think this is all in my head or do you think that even without a uterus, some menstrual symptoms still happen?

Any feedback on what's going on would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Sisters, I need your feedback - wondering about periods after hysterectomy

I was under the impression that it is sometimes possible for mini periods to occur post op If u kept cervix? But I could be misinformed , your hormones will still be all over the place after hyst so your symptoms could just be recovery symptoms xx

Yes shell.. If you keep cervix and at least one ovary you can still get a mini period..

If you have cervix and uterus removed but have at least one ovary left you can still get pms symtoms but no actual bleeding should occur as there is nothing left that can shed..

Re: Sisters, I need your feedback - wondering about periods after hysterectomy

I kept my cervix and one ovary. I am one of the lucky ones, not a spot of blood since surgery. I do have pms symptoms, although they have not been as severe since my rt ovary was removed. My period would be due any day now. Having some breast tenderness, craved red meat for a few days, and had my monthly bowl of ice cream with pb and chocolate ganache sauce. All is good in the neighborhood.

Re: Sisters, I need your feedback - wondering about periods after hysterectomy

Your ovaries will still go through their regular cycles, even though you don't have the uterus anymore. You'll still get PMS symptoms from the hormones they put out.

If you still had your cervix, too, you might have a mini-period while the cervix shed its little bit of lining, so at least you don't have to worry about that.
