Baffled

I'm so glad I had my TAH-but.....I'm baffeled. Its been 8 weeks now and I feel great. But here's what happened. Doctor told me I had a large fibriod on the outside of my uterus and several small ones on the inside. and I had a cyst on my left overy. Had the surgery done. When i woke up, doctor told me there was no cyst to remove. ( I knew that going into the surgery-because cyst can be just a monthly thing and it wasn't a complex cyst) And there was NO FIBROIDS. I was confussed and I am still confussed. But the doctor said i had a very large uterus. I did have 2 opions, both resulted in fibroids. Ultrasound confimed it. As I said in the beginning I'm completely happy with not having any more periods but I just want to know where go from here. Doctor didn't seem to concerned about it. Very short and quick with my 6 week checkup. But I'm left with lots of questions as to how this could of happened. I really didn't want this kind of surgery in the first place, but the doctors made it sound like I had no choice. So my question is, what would you do?

Re: Baffled

You sought two opinions, hopefully did your research, and made your decision. Now you move forward even though things were not as you had expected. You can't change the past and living with regrets won't help either.

Ultrasounds are not infallible as you found out first hand. Likely something with your uterus being enlarged caused inaccurate images.

Re: Baffled

That does sound pretty baffling - Did you ask the doctor how fibroids could have been seen by two sets of ultrasounds, yet none were found upon removal of the uterus? The cyst makes sense, if it was functional and resolved prior to surgery, but that sure does sound baffling. Could they have been polyps, not fibroids? Just me, but I'd need some more answers to put my mind at ease. I'm really glad you are doing well though!

Re: Baffled

Perhaps you had adenomyosis. I had a adenomyoma.

The only thing I know is that I was bleeding heavily for something like 3 years. Whatever it was, it is gone. To try to stop it, I was on pills, suffering from depression, migraines... life was hell.

Now, it is over! Come on, girls, let us just celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Re: Baffled

Hmmm... I am confused too.. Odd that 2 different docs said it though. I personally would want more answers myself...

Re: Baffled

Sometimes there just aren't any answers. Unfortunately, medicine is not an exact science and there's still so much to learn. I think you still should ask the questions just to ease your mind, but you should also be prepared for the possibility of the doc not having an answer. They can only go by what the test results show (i.e. your ultrasound), your symptoms, and their own experience.
