Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Still have not had a BM, but dont feel an urge. I try to sit on my throne an extra few minutes just too see if something will happen, but nothing even feels close to happening. I have been taking 3 phillups stool softeners a day. Had TAH on 3/6. At what point should I start being worried about not "going" poo?

Oh ok. I thought it was a PAH which meant partial. So many things to learn! But like you said I have plenty of time to learn it. Let me try that again... I had a SAH/BSO. I'm hoping the weight will come off because I'm overweight as it is and have been the same weight for years so I dont want to gain weight. Losing would be nice! I feel like laying around in my recliner and playing on computer, reading my kindle fire, playing on my iPhone! I also have tv which I do enjoy watching! I work everyday and I love my job and the people I work with are like family. It's just so darn hard! I want to heal right so I am going to do nothing for 2 weeks! I made my husband a promise!! It's just so hard!

Pinkink I didn't have the urge either so the 3rd day I just sat on the throne and pushed. After a few pushes it came! I was so happy! It was quite a bit! The next morning which was today I actually had the urge and went easily. I'm still taking 3 of the Phillips stool softeners every day. I will for a week or so.
Good luck!!

I had a lot of abdominal repair done, I had a lot of scar tissue in my abdominal wall from previous c sections, so they had to cut through scar tissue and stitch me up, so I am reaaly sore internally and under my belly button, so I just know I dont want to push. And it doesnt even feel like anything is there yet to push out. Not really worried, just amazed that i could go from bowel prep on 3/5 emptying everything to 3/10 with no BM.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
One of the instructions from my doctor was not to push during BMs. You can tear stitches if you push too hard so I wouldn't recommend doing that if you can avoid it. Some ladies have had success with putting their feet up on a little stool while sitting on the "throne". If you really can't have a BM, and you have done the usual prune juice, coffee, prunes, dried apricots, apple juice and so on, give your doctor a call to see what he or she recommends. My doctor had ordered a suppository and an enema to take as I wished in the hospital. I finally took the suppository the last night I was there and it was a relief to know that things were working again.
To answer pinkink's question, some ladies don't have a bowel movement until a week after surgery. It depends if you had a bowel prep before or not. And you have to eat enough for there to be something to evacuate. I would gauge it on whether I was uncomfortable or not. If you are okay, don't worry about it but if you feel really uncomfortable, try the things above or give your doc a call.
I hope this helps!

I didn't have to push hard, thank god! It hurts to push hard so I just did short pushes and it worked. I'm sure its not good but it didn't hurt me. I think I was ready to go anyways. It was easy. You just have to keep up with it because you can become constipated as long as you are taking pain pills.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Had a TAH on Tuesday, 3/6/12 2 PM. 13 cm ovarian cyst (suspected dermoid but believed to be benign). Also fibroid tumor in uterus. Surgery took little over 3 hours because the cyst was attached to almost everything. Don't remember much till I got into my room. I do remember waking up wondering if it was over with which I quickly figured out when I tried to move. Was told I would probably not go home till Saturday because of the extras they had to do to remove the cyst.
Spent the night with morphine pain pump, IV, and catheter. Weds morning they took catheter out. Made me happy till I got up to go to the bathroom and quickly got tangled up with the tubes for the IV and morphine. First time I urinated there was a puddle of blood on the floor. Doctor said it was excess pocket of blood from stitching up the vagina. Only happened that one time. I made myself get up and walk the hallways twice on Tuesday, pushing my IV and morphine pump pole. At least it was something to hold on to while walking. I was also good about doing my breathing exercises.
No food till Thursday, soft liquid diet for lunch (best tasting jell-o I ever had) and full liquid diet for dinner. They removed the iv and morphine pump Thursday evening. Finally able to go to the bathroom without unplugging cables and pushing the IV pole. I made myself walk the hallways 4 times today. Put me on hydrocodone that night - haven’t had bad pain so only 1 pill. I finally passed gas around 2:30 am this morning. Made me so happy. Late in the day I wound up with diarrhea. Only occurred the one time then I was back to passing just gas.
Friday morning got my first food. Doctor says I’m doing good and if I tolerate the food then I can go home late today. Which I did. Managed to walk the halls 3 times today. Finally got home around 6 PM. So glad to be home in my own bed, until I realized how nice those bed handrails were in helping me get situated in the bed. But I worked it out and got situated in my bed.
Saturday morning woke up around 3:30, sweating and a little nausea. Had been running low grade fever (99) last night and thinking maybe I broke the fever. Or it could be that I don’t seem to be tolerating the hydrocodone very well. Will try my ibuprofen today instead of the hydrocodone. Worrying about constipation I took a stool softner last night. Later this morning it worked as I had a bowel movement. That made me feel better.
I am taking it easy but probably not resting or drinking as much water as I should be. It’s Saturday evening and I’m running another 99 degree temp again. I’ll spend more time Sunday playing the princess role and let everyone pamper me. And drinking more water. Started using OTC Advil and Tylenol instead of the prescription meds - I seem to be sensitive to the prescription meds and the OTC handles my pain well. Got my first shower today and washed my hair. Felt so good. Still wearing my abdominal binder they put on me after the surgery. I seem to be getting a sore throat. Thinking it might be from the tube down my throat during surgery. Will keep an eye on it.
I’m using a hiking pole to help me get up and move around. It seems to be working great. Gives me something to hang on to after first getting up until I can manage to straighten up.
I go in to the doctor on Monday to get my staples out. Overall I feel like I’m not doing bad. Hope my luck continues.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
I'm 4 days post opfrom TAH but am feeling worse. The pain was managable up until today. I think I'm swelling more and am just plain miserable. I have tried to force myself to rest and sit still but I'm restless and 2 kids bouncing around, even with help, makes it so hard to rest. Is it just me or is this pretty normal?

I'm sorry you're not feeling well I'm also 4 days post op and I'm feeling really great no pain and the swelling is going down-- just hungry.. My husband is out of the country but I would definitely try to get some peace and quiet and stay on your meds which may completely turn things around! Praying for you and hope you feel better soon

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Just got home! Pain is still being managed wonderfully. Gas is passing but no BM. I have severe IBS so I refuse to take stool softeners - starting fiber pills tonight.
So tired I can barely read/post right now. Will post moe in the morning after a LONG NIGHT OF SLEEPING! Haha!
