Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Hi All,
I had my TLH and both Ovaries removed on Wednesday due to large Uterine Fibroids and an Ovarian mass found during my annual ob/gyn appointment. I had no prior symptoms other than what felt like a "stitch" in my groin when I walked and heavy periods every other month. I am so thankful all tumors were benign. No Cancer WooHoo!!! Other than feeling tired...I feel great and grateful ! I've even lost 11 pounds. I have 3 little band aids...one on my belly button and 1 on on each hip. I can't believe a 10 inch fibroid and an ovary the size of a cantaloupe came out through my belly button! The technology today is amazing! I was in the hospital until 5:00 pm Thursday because I felt a little nauseous from the pain medicine. The greatest pain I had was shoulder pain due to gas. I used an ice pack and kept walking the halls of the hospital to help relieve that. All in all, it's been an easy recovery thus far. For me...the fear of a cancer diagnosis and the relief of not having one has made this one of my top 5 moments of life. Keep on keepin on Love and Peaceful healing to all xo

LAVH, its been a week! By afternoon sitting gets uncomfortable (episiotomy) and I have to lay down and stretch out. I have been on short strolls outside enjoying the spring weather. The three small incsicions on my belly have healed nicely. This evening I have noticed twinges right in the opening of the vagina. Nerve endings? Muscle contractions?
Overall I feel like Im recovering well.

Slept better last night, not as much tossing and turning. Hand is still blue and bruised from IV, I will be so happy when I stop bumping it on everything.
Belly button incision is a little red, might be slightly infected but the other below my belly button is healing really well.I
I almost have no flow now, I wipe and it is only slightly pink... dare I throw out all my pads and tampons??? HOORAY!!!
I feel the worst and most tired at night - that is obvious.. but what is surprising me is the swelling and bloating feeling that starts to creep in around 5pm.. maybe my system trying to digest all the food from the day? Either way, in the mornings I literally feel about 95% SO you wont hear me complaining

I still have the 2 bruising areas in my arm from iv. Nurse couldnt stick me do the anesthesiologist had to do it! It came out last Wednesday and I'm still badly bruised. I picked up my dog today and then remembered Oooops he is 14 pounds!
You sound like you are doing well! My swelling is all of the time and it's bad! I go to dr tomorrow for post op and staple removal. I have the big cut! I'm taking it slow

The biggest bruise I have is on the top of my left hand from a nurse who thought that "was the best vein"to draw blood right before I was discharged. Oh my goodness....it hurt so much! She was a very new nurse...and it was easier for her to draw blood there than my inner arm. YIKES....it still hurts and is purple

You were so lucky! I wanted to have the laparoscopic surgery but I couldn't because of several reasons and one being that I had a fibroid the size of a cantaloupe and a uterus the size of a 5 month pregnant uterus. The doc did the abdominal incision and everything came out!
Sounds like you are doing really well on your recovery.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Hello ladies! I had DaVinci with both ovaries removed on March 8th. The gas pain was far worse than the pain from the surgery. I am still trying to get the remaining gas out (any tips?) My belly looks like I am 6 months pregnant. My binder has helped out a lot-it gives that extra support I feel I need so that my insides don't wiggle around, although laughing, sneezing, coughing, and hiccups still cause me to clench my tummy so that nothing falls out. I have felt great, taking it easy, but able to get up and move around as needed. I overdid it on Saturday, 2 days post and had some extra bleeding that night. I also passed a fairly large blood clot in the hospital, and was told that was normal and not to be alarmed. I'm glad it happened while I was in the hospital, because it would have freaked me out if I did that at home!
Today has been my worst day yet. I'm not sure what the difference is, maybe it is the anesthesia catching up with me, but I have slept non-stop all day. The days up until today, I have been awake all day, and have only taken a small nap during the day to make up for the sleepless nights. I also have the worst heartburn possible. It feels like I am going to throw up at any given moment, and that something (food, acid, whatever) is stuck at the bottom of my throat just waiting to come up. I've had my 1st and 2nd BM, so I am not sure what is going on. Anyone have anything similar? *I have not had any bleeding since Saturday, and now I am just waiting for the last of the post op symptoms to go away. I am planning on returning to work next Monday (in 1 week), and wanted to see what everyone else's plans are. After being on Percocet since mid-January for severe pain, it is all ready better, and I am looking forward to being completely pain free soon!
I was more worried about the menopause that was supposed to immediately follow, but so far, so good. I started taking Estratest the day after, and it seems to be working. I did wake up in the middle of the night Saturday night drenched with sweat, and I thought... well, here we go. Then I rolled over to get out of bed to change clothes and remembered that I still had my heating pad on. Hahaha!
Thanks for the website, and sharing your experiences, it is good to know you are not alone!

One more thing, more annoying than an issue. When I stand up to walk, whether it is just to the bathroom, or downstairs, I am super dizzy. Is this still an anesthesia thing? Anyone else have this? Or it could be the narcotics, new hormones, or any number of new things going on. Thanks!

It could be a number of things such as anemia or low blood pressure as well as left over anesthesia. I would suggest you give your doctor a call so he or she knows that this is happening to you. Please get back to us with what you find out.

I had that, the swollen labia, only on the right side. I thought it was odd. I plan to ask my doc about it.
