Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Saw the doctor today because I've been having an increase of pain and a new pain up inside me. She said I look fine. My vaginal stitches have dissolved and it all looks good. She reminded me that she doesn't clear people to work until 6 weeks and most women don't feel anywhere near "normal" till 3 monthes after TAH. Ugh, I'm so **** bored with resting! I hate to be such a baby but I hurt. The only place I have relief is in bed. I keep trying to get up and do small things. Did a load of wash today. I want to try to take a very short walk around the neighborhood but I fear the pain afterward.
I want to feel happy to have had this surgery but today (and yesterday) it just feels like it's never going to get better.
Thank you all for being here and sharing. It helps to know where all of you are in your recovery.
May you all have a happy, restful, pain free day. And thank you again for sharing your stories. It is so helpful!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
I am 4 weeks post op and I had my follow up appointment today. I am healing just fine and in two weeks I am released to do whatever I want. The doc said some things like sit-ups, working abs, I won't like doing but he said to just take it slow, and I would be fine. He looked at my incision. It has some hard feeling areas, one lump on the right side, he said this is normal. He looked inside vagina and did a pelvic exam. I will see him again in a year! I have spent the last year talking to him and seeing him while we tried taking care of my problems with hormones. I appreciate all he has done for me, but it will be nice not being a continuous patient!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
I arrived in Iowa to see my kids and I think I overdid! I have been down the last 2 days with horrible gas pains. I have taken everything under the sun for the pains and now I have diarrhea! Still have pains but not as bad! Haven't eaten much in 2 days! I didn't have bad gas pains even after surgery!! Anyone else done this??

Yes, gas is not my friend at the first sign I take Gas-x or I will be in terrible pain. If it doesn't work so well I walk and walk around the house until something moves.
Sorry to hear you are going through this it's horrible. I didn't have trouble immediately post op either. I wish you well and gas free!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
Looks like I will be making a 13 hour trip. I don't drive so I will just be a passenger but my mom passed yesterday so we are heading down to take care of that stuff.
Any advice for making the ride more comfortable?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
I am so sorry! Here are a few to help you through this. Bring a small pillow to tuck between you and the seatbelt to help with the jiggling sensation and make sure that you stop and walk around every couple of hours. That is important not to get a blood clot even at this stage of recovery. Otherwise, it might help to change the angle of the seat whenever you get uncomfortable in one position. Bring extra pillows to help cushion you in various places. Don't forget to keep drinking lots of water so you don't get constipated. I hope this helps.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 05-Mar 11,2012
hi fancy. gas pains are horrible..yes i agree Gas x, walk and walk until gas starts to be released, ginger or peppermint tea, or peppermints..i know ive had so much gas starting near the end of first week in post op and its absolutely horrible. and sometimes to be truthful nothing works to release it other than just try to relax and do deep breathing exercises, to help calm the tummy down,,try slowly bending your knees forward in slow easy motions, lay on your back and bring knees up using your heels towards your bottom and then slowly move one knee at a time towards you slightly, not too far, and very important as you laying on your back, keep back, head and neck firmly down, do not lift your body up at all, just gently bring one knee at a time slightly forward towards you...i hope this helps you,,,no more gas would be so lovely
