Hey Sisters!
10 days post-op TAH (happily was left with one ovary ) - things are getting a bit easier, I can walk further, almost no more pain meds (try to take some just at night - so I can sleep) but my energy level is much lower than in week 1.
I just want to crawl into bed and stay ... it is hard not to take a nice warm bath to relax and make myself feel good - a shower has to do!
Still using stool softeners, but today was the first day it came "easy"! Yeah!
Incision still burns and hurts a bit but much better than it was.
Still can't sleep on my belly which drives my bananas!
Loving my bed, not wanting to get out of it at all - wonder if there is something like a post-op depression ...
Appetite is still not going so well, kind of have to force myself to eat.
My vagina seems to be very irritated, too! I think it is almost in shock of having seen the knife coming towards her and being afraid now it will not work anymore and have orgasms ...
Anybody know when you can masturbate ... my vagina and me are very curious if we still can function!
Had a massage three days ago to straighten out all my skin which my therapist told me got "wrinkled up" by cutting my tissue on the belly - that was heaven! I felt soooo much better after it! The pulling in my legs that I had experience before was completely gone and my entire skin felt better as well!
Wishing you all a good and save recovery!

As for the random bleeding, my doc told me to expect it anytime in the 6 week post op period. Until the cuff is totally closed off, you can have some spotting. They leave it open in few places intentionally to drain any fluid accumulations, and sometimes we seeit, sometimes we don't. So a little spotting of fluid, or none at all is totally normal up to the point they tell you the cuff is totally healed. If you kept your cervix, then any fluid at anytime is normal. The exception is if the fluid looks like pus, dark yellow or green and has a foul odor, call the MD immediately!
I am 7 days post TVH, feel pretty good. Only taking Motrin and bowel meds. Sometimes the Vicodin at night. I get sweaty around midnight when I finally settle down to sleep after a long hard day of doing nothing. Maybe if I went to bed at a normal time, I'd be waking up with sweats, but I kept my ovaries, so maybe not. I just notice its hard to get to sleep cuz I'm hot and uncomfortable, even though I'm I. The same bed, I the same clothes I've been in most of the day, with no problems... Weird.
You have to ask your doc when orgasms are safe. I had one in my sleep yesterday, so went ahead and included hubby in the deal later on. I figured if it does it all by itself, it can't hurt to be aware of it and enjoy right? My doc said it was fine as long as there was nothing in the vagina and no oral! Happy to know that everything works fabulously, no change from before surgery, so apparently I didn't need the nasty uterus and cervix! Lol
I have also noticed really dry, itchy skin. I take brown sugar and mix it with sesame or coconut oil to make a sugar scrub. You can buy ready made as well, but I don't like the Chemicals. I had hubby help me reach the spots that are too far away, and then used a really good moisturizer, and boy, do I feel like a woman! No more beastly lizard skin! Considered going for a pedi too, but just writing this has made me tired, so maybe I'll skip it.
The pain doesn't stop me for anything, just to total lack of energy for anything at all. So, I don't believe in post surgical depression, maybe post surgical wipe out for sure!
Hang in there ladies, we are all doing awesome!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 12-Mar 18,2012
You are very welcome! I ended up going to the doctor today. No issues with my bladder except for the 3+ sugar. Getting that checked out!
Had the WORST pelvic exam ever. My doc had to make sure the bladder was ok and things were not falling apart in there, since I have a ton of pelvic pressure. All was ok. Just did to much the other day. I can't stand to be helpless, so on post-op day 8 I pushed around my floor cleaner. NOT the greatest idea!
Back on pain meds and strict rules to not do anything! Ugh!
How are you feeling blessd? Better?

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 12-Mar 18,2012
Hello sisters
I am still doing well. I have surprised myself as I had feared the worst. The first few days I went up and down the stairs sideways to avoid pulling but can now go up and down slowly but forwards. Still taking walks. The spans worked. I have the firm Haite Contour ones. They are about as firm as the binder where the incision is but much more comfy and invisible under clothes. I even put on a dress and went to a classical concert last night.
Am still dealing with the constipation and bits of gas if I eat the wrong stuff. I am still not back to my normal high fibre diet. And I still cannot bend to get things tie my shoes etc. nor can I reach very far upwards. My worst problem is still the back spasm. Am waiting to hear whether it is safe to go to chiropractor or not and which stretches are safe. Had massage which helped.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 12-Mar 18,2012
mhorner,
My hubby and I checked if things were still working post-op day 4 or so. It was different because my uterus doesn't contract anymore...since it's gone and all! Ha!
We haven't had sex...I don't want that thing near me right now, but had fun with some vib....I couldn't be sure if I actually had an O or not...still to early. I wasn't sore afterwards...
Hope this helps!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 12-Mar 18,2012
Hiya.
Gave myself an orgasm so as to allay fears. Worked, but without the uterine contraction component which used to make if feel more full. Then again pre-surgery those contractions were becoming painful so prob a good thing. So, yes, it's there but different. A friend says that somehow, a while after surgery for her, her belly muscles kind of took over the uterus's role so she now has almost the same sensation as before.
Anyone else, who's kept their cervix, still spotting?
To the sister whose husband is coughing - evict him! My daughter gave me a cold and the coughing and blowing are not what we need right now.
Question about spanx- do they make it harder to pass wind? Thinking I should go shopping today for some.
(Gentle) hugs to you all.
