Possible hernia by my belly button 13 months post hysto

How can I tell if I might have a hernia? In my belly button it looks like I have 2 small lumps (the bigger one is about half to one cm big and the other one is a bit smaller). I don't know if that is normal for my belly button or not (I didn't pay much attention to that area). It's just those two lumps looks like something is behind it making it look a little swollen but not sure. I worry about looking or sounding like a hypochondriac about this. I do see my surgeon who did my hysto in 2 more months, would it be okay to wait that long to ask about this? Should I be careful about how much I lift between now and then. And can you have a hernia and it not hurt? That area doesn't hurt.

I think it sounds like a hernia; they don't necessarily hurt. However, if you're worried, there's no substitute for calling the doctor's office. They won't mind answering your questions -- that's what they're there for.

Okay thanks! It probably is best to check it out early so I can know for sure what it is or if it's nothing. I'll see about stopping by my GP's office tomorrow to set up an appt. The sooner I know the better too.
