Re: Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy

kathsar,
I am looking into having this surgery. i have prolapsed after having a parital hysterectomy almost 4 years ago. i am 37 years old and a little ticked off that I'm even having to think about having this down but my options are limited. i would be having the sacrospinous ligament colpopexy. please let me know how you are doing and if anyone else is having this done please let me know if your results are good. I dont want to have surgery again and still be hurting. your results seem encouraging. thank you

Re: Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy

You're right, you are young to be going through this. I'm 65 and I'm not happy about it. I had a partial hysterectomy in 1997. My bladder was tacked up during that operation. I went for a mesh repair to hold it up in June, but three weeks later it was back down. I'm now having an Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy on May 8th. Hopefully that's the end of it. I don't know what kind of surgery you're having, but I'll look it up. I wish you good luck. I'll keep you posted as I go along.

Re: Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy

I am 52 and had the surgery done on April 30th and had to come home with a catheter as well. I am very disappointed because if the nurse practioner does not return to the office I won't have it removed until next Friday which is almost 2 weeks post-op. I found it very uncomfortable with bleeding. I received no instruction. This is by far the most painful surgery I have had to date and hope to not have another. Did they prescribe luvenox shots for you?

Smile - Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy Re: Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy

Ladies, I am 4 weeks post-op and doing very well. As I mentioned previously I ended up going home with a catheter but the hospital was great about arranging a home health care nurse to come to my home on a Saturday to remove it. This was 2 days after I came home. The nurse also returned later the same day to make sure I was able to go on my own and to scan my bladder to make sure I was completely emptying.

If you have to go home with a catheter it is not the worst thing. It beats getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, at least the first couple of days when everything is sore. Jllybnbg, check with your hospital, doctor and/or insurance provider to arrange for the home health nurse to come to your home to remove the catheter. Then you are not at the mercy of the nurse practitioner at your doctor's office.

I had a 2-week checkup and a 4 week checkup and everything is healing well and I feel great. I am 60 years of age. I would think the younger you are the quicker you might heal but everyone is different. Good luck!

Re: Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy

Tatmkmtmtltr and Nellie, I hope your surgeries go very well for you. I ended up back to the e.r. last night with incredible pain. I have ended up with a uti. If I cannot have my doctor's office take out my cath before Friday I will talk to my insurance company about having a home nurse come in. Especially since they were a little shocked I still had one when I called them yesterday. I know every doctor is different just as everyone heals differently. If it were not for this catheter and developing a uti I would actually be doing great. Well, the meds are nauseating ....lol. it is great to chat with women in the same situation. They did a lot of rearranging down there and I really am coming through with minimal pain medication. Now that is great!

Re: Upcoming Abdominal Sacral Colpopexy

jllybnbg - Sorry to hear about your uti. I had one of those after a test the doctor did and felt better after taking the first pill. Hope you have the same results. Also hoping to not come home with a catheter. Will keep you updated. Feel better.
