Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Had my TLH/BSO/Appendectomy/Adhesions removed on Wed. All the pain is on the right side where more of the work was. I don't feel any pain at the other incision sites. Last evening I was starting to have bad constipation pressure despite using stool softeners, lots of water, fiber, and prune juice since day 1. My doctor's approved list for constipation aids included Dulcolax so last evening I used a suppository for some relief in about 30 minutes, then I also used an overnight tablet for more relief this morning. I feel so much better now.
Wishing everyone posting on this thread a comfortable recovery day today!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
I feel fine physically. Very slight pain, not worse than minor period cramps, nothing that would usually keep me inside or on the couch, definately not enough pain that would generally keep me home from work.
I know I should be taking it easy, but it is hard for me to justify sitting around doing nothing.
Emotionally I am having a hard time. I feel like I am somehow failing in my recovery by not just going back to work, or not understand why I can't, or just not enjoying the rest. I kept my ovaries, so I don't feel like I have any reason to be emotionally upset.
I am quickly heading to a serious depression. I almost feel like I am "faking" the need to be off work since I don't feel too bad. But I know they will be angry if I try to go back next week because they think I need six to eight weeks off.
My daughter is walking home from work in the dark because I can't drive, but then I wonder, should I be driving her? Am I being lazy, too careful for no reason?
I am hating the helpless feeling.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Hey all, it is now 5 days post op, I got out of the house for a little while yesterday, went over to a friends and sat in a chair in the yard, we were low 80's and light breeze, very nice day. I only stayed a couple of hours and was exhausted. My belly is much more tender and swollen then before, but less meds and more movement will do that.
I go home to my house tonight, I have been with friends. I am a little nervous, I only have my son, but he will be helpful I am sure.
Hugs and best wishes to all my hystersisters out there.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Dear canadianchic:
I think it's very normal to have a hard time relaxing, especially if you're a hard wired multitasker. Just rememeber that you have a lot of healing to do inside (which you may or may not feel). If you rush it, you may do damage to yourself and suffer possibly for the rest of your life. Maybe this is the time you can get quiet things done, such as letter writing, catching up with friends on FB, organizing paperwork, scrapbooking, trying a new recipe, just sitting ouside on a sunny day reading a book, etc. This may be one of the only times you actually have "permission" to rest and relax, since it sounds like you're a busy mom.
You may still be feeling some axiety from the anesthesia and pain meds. I know I have a lot of soreness in my shoulders and neck and blurred vision (my surgery was Friday Mar 30). I'm worried about getting back to school and my 4th graders, so I get how you feel. I've heard you really should not drive because you don't realize how much of your abdominal muscles you use, especially if you had to make a hard stop. I hope you find a way to relax and pamper yourself a little. Maybe you could email your doc and get some ideas that will help. I also read that the anesthesia and pain meds can cause us to feel somewhat depressed. Idea: Could a friend or neighbor give your daugher a ride? People would be glad to help you out. They just need to be asked.
Best wishes to you! : )

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Hello ladies,
I had LSH on 3/30 and just stayed in the hospital one night. The doctor said all went well, and that my ovaries looked healthy so they stayed - which is what I had hoped for.
The anesthesiologist put an anti-nausea patch behind my ear and also put something in the IV, and I had no problem with feeling sick at any time! (I have been sick in the past after surgery). I have had a sore throat (they told me I was intubated) but it's feeling a bit better today. I gained 8 lbs. while there! Did anyone have this happen, and if so, how long does it take to go away?
Gas pains have kicked in - ouch! Taking Gas-X to try to help.
I have a terrible time getting in and out of bed, so I'm in my recliner most of the time, with a pillow in my lap on which I prop my computer and books.
I am a little surprised I was sent home with only pain meds, no antibiotics. Anyone else have this?
Walking isn't as bad as I thought it might be - It's the getting up and sitting/laying back down that HURTS.
Best wishes to the rest of you, and a speedy recovery!

GA gal, also a georgia sister here.
I was only given pain meds and they will be gone today, my surgery was Tuesday. They gave me IV antibiotics while in the hospital though. Good luck on your recovery.

I came home with 800 Motrin and a stool softener. I haven't weighed myself yet but I will before my shower (first since surgery last Friday). I trying to get up enough energy to actually get into the shower. ha ha!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Hi Ladies.
Well as I write this I'm having a hot flash . I kept my ovaries, but my doc told me that due to all of the work down there, I may experience some hot/cold flashes.
I'm still in lots of belly pain. My back hurts too! I'm pretty sure that's because of the fact that all I do is sit, lay down and walk around every once in a while.
I admit I'm a bit jealous.... my bestest friend had surgery the day after I did, so she has not been able to come and visit ... I feel bad I can't go and visit her either!
I get tired after even sitting at the table eating dinner.
UGH!!!!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Nobody at work should be dictating when you return work. Everybody is different and you can't judge your recovery against somebody else. When you return to work should be based on how you truly feel physically and emotionally. AND it's a decision to be made by you and your doctor. Glad you are feeling so well physically. I feel like I could go back to work too but doctor told me to take at least a week because how you feel can change from day to day and throughout a single day. Even though we feel good we did just have major surgery! Take care.
