[quote=Traeleigh;3757419]I would say that if your gave you the "All Clear" that means you can go about your day with no restrictions. If you are unsure if you should be doing something though, please give the doc a call just to make sure. Ask them to explain everything to you in detail so that you know exactly what you can and can't do.

You still don't want to over- do it though, so ease back into your daily life slowly!!!

Hope this helps a little.

Sexy1, sounds like your a little depressed. Hey get a PT job thats what I did when my kids were all in school, school cafeteria is where I started you will then be on the same schedule as your kids. Or join a group book club, garden club. You need you time, and have just gone thru surgery you need it.. Take a deep breath and just get thru each day a little happier

Hi
I've been lurking here for a while reading posts and being reassured that all was 'normal'. I'm 6wks post op tomorrow TAH/BSO. Feeling ok most of the time but I do know when I've done too much as I just need to sleep! I'm in the UK and it looks as though things are a bit different here.

I had my op Sat 31Mar and was home by lunchtime the following Tue. My follow up at the hospital was at 13days post op and I was signed off from their care. Since then I've been seeing nurses once a week because my wound has been leaking but in between I'm expected to deal with my own dressings. I live alone, my partner is only here at weekends, so I've had to get various friends/neighbours to help change my dressings (I'm a large lady and can't see what I'm doing due to leaks being lower on my belly).

I've made an appointment to see my regular Dr next week to check I'm ok to go back to work. I will ask her all my questions then, but I'm still surprised that I've essentially been left to get on with it by myself!

S

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

I think that is great advice twotwokat. I started out working as a lunch monitor a couple days a week...ended up covering the secretary's lunches as well. Anything you can do PT that keeps you on the same schedule as the kids...so no worries with babysitting. Now I am a substitute teacher. It is per diem....I can say no if I want to. I enjoy getting out every once and a while...adult interaction is much needed. I can't wait to get back to it. My days seem long too...my almost 4 year old can be a real pain and the weather has been awful. We definitely have cabin fever but until I can lift her or even drive...I am stuck as well. Next week I hope to go back to walking. Put her in the carriage and just go....Sounds easy enough! Maybe a walk to the library to get some books as TV has done a number on my brain. I now will only watch cooking shows! Feel better...know that we are all here with you...

I totally understand the boredom. We as women seem to be on the go all the time and when we can't do that, we start getting stir crazy!! I agree with twotwokat's advice. Maybe get a part time job or find some sort of club to be a part of. Find something that you enjoy doing and go out an do it. You need sometime to enjoy the things that perhaps you have missed out on for awhile.

It does get better...you just have to think positive and really believe that it does. It has been a hard ride for you, so go out and do something for yourself...you deserve it!!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

I saw my surgeon today for my 6 week check. I had a 9cm serous cystadenoma on one ovary and a 5cm on the other and fibroids and adenomyosis in my womb. All benign..Hooray and thank the Lord!
I can now swim, have a bath, have sex (if I ever feel the urge again!!!) do abdominal and core stability exercises and just be careful lifting stuff as long as it is not too heavy. I will pass on still!!!
I feel such a plonker though; I made a long list of things I wanted to tell him and questions to ask and took it with me. On the way home I realised that I had not asked about some aches that I have (Twinges in my lower left pelvis where the tumour was, and feeling still achy and a bit raw all over my pelvic area in the mornings when I wake up) and whether this was normal at this stage. I still take over the counter pain meds for this. He said I could ring his office and ask any questions or if I have any further problems so I will tomorrow. (but to forget to ask about that...... DUR!!! I did ask about everything else but I HAD IT WRITTEN DOWN IN FRONT OF ME!!!!! )

This forum has been so helpful and supportive. If I have had a wakeful night or head for the painkillers or stool softeners, I have thought of all you gals out there doing the same sort of things and going through similar stuff all over the world. It helps to know that what is happening to you isoften happening to someone else and can be bourne with the crown held high and with other sisters there to walk with you when needed.
I feel a bit sheepish at having such a smooth ride compared to some of you all, but we all are on the same journey and hopefully we shall all eventually reach our goal of fitness.
Back to work full time next week.. I am expecting to be exhausted but I am also looking forward to it.
Sweet dreams ladies from a very wet southern England! xx

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

I returned to work Tuesday, 6 weeks after surgery #1, 4 weeks after #2 (abscess w/ hemorrhaging). I was very nervous to return as I was very weak from anemia, so I prepared by taking daily outings the week before. Each outing left me tired and achy, but it evidently worked because day1 was much better than I thought.

I work on the 2nd floor and had planned to take the elevator for the first week, but something about being dressed up and back in the building energized me and I bounced up the stairs with ease. By lunch my abdomen was feeling uncomfortable and I found myself yawning, but I made it through a 9 hour day.

When I got home, everything ached so I sat in the recliner with hydrocodone in hand. I hadn't taken one in weeks, so I decided to see if some relaxation would help, so I waited and within an hour, I was feeling much better. Each day has gotten better and I WILL make it through to the weekend.

Resting is important, but please remember to walk and condition yourself, it has made all the difference. Since reaching week 5, I have felt better each day and think the walking has been a large part of that improvement. I walked immediately after surgery #1, but after #2 I was weaker and lost my motivation to walk and slowed down. Funny how hindsight is 20/20.

Rest, walk, drink plenty of water, eat healthy, take multi-vitamins and stool softener.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

Tomorrow I will be 6 weeks postop LSH. I have been back to work (teacher) for 4 weeks and am doing great. I am very active and have been walking and hiking regularly. I do get very tired, though, and am having a hard time keeping up with all my work that needs correcting. After teaching all day and doing my 4.5 mi. power walk, I eat dinner and fall asleep. I don't have many complaints at this stage. I had to sleep for about 2 hrs. after a 6 mi. hike on Sunday that really did me in.

The worst thing I am suffering from are the regular hot flashes and some unexplained anxiety. Moods are pretty good overall. I just started taking an herbal supplement that contains black cohosh, one in the morning with green tea and ginseng, and one before bed with valerian to help with sleep. I've been taking it for almost a week now and feel pretty well; it says it can take 5 to 6 weeks to really see a difference. I also carry a little folding fan in my purse and have one on my desk at school. When my 4th graders asked me why I'm always hot, I said, "What do you expect--I'm Italian!" They got a big kick out of that!

My incisions are a little red, sore, and itchy, so I keep putting Neosporin on them. I am afraid of having sex this weekend but am hoping all will be fine. I just watched the 5 to 6 postop video and am glad I got some info about that.

Oh, I almost forgot! The absolute BEST thing is this: no pads, leakage, cramps, worries! I don't have to plan my life around profuse bleeding. I feel truly free of a 42-year burden. Woohoooooo!!! : ) My birthday is next week, and this will be one of the things I am thankful for and will be celebrating.

I wish everyone freedom from worry and pain as we all journey into this next phase of our lives. Blessings!

I'm going to try the K-Y warming gel. I'll let you know how it works. : )
