Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
I'm about to get released from the hospital. Last night what's so terrible. I was bleeding so much and it was absolutely terrifying. My husband is an Internal Medicine doctor. He kept me calm and from freaking out. I had an arterial bleed and when I was waiting for my doctor to come see me I couldnt believe all the blood coming out. I passed three huge clots the size of apples and nearly passed out. The doctor restitched all of my stitches in the vaginal cuff so hopefully things will be better. I am definitely going to take it easy from now on. I don't have any pain. I feel okay... Well kind of like i was the main course at a vampire party. I just have to consciously remember not to lift anything or strain.
The doctor was going to keep me till tomorrow due to all the blood loss but decided to let me go home tonight when my husband finishes his shift at the hospital. I do have a doctor at home I guess that I should be in good hands!
My husband expressed today how are incredibly scared he was last night even though he seemed calm last night- he was very terrified of the amount of blood loss.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
I SO feel for you all!!!! Wow. I had my post op appt yesterday and all was well. Of course, no sex until after my next appt (june 18) if I get the ok then. So, since I forgot to ask this, I called today and Guess what? As little arousal as possible, too! No gawking at my DH if it turns me on, not only intercourse, but no other stuff either. It turns out that they'd like things to stay as stable as possible and arousal makes things swell stretch, etc. If we just hang in there and are good for the rest of the time, we'll never have a problem w this again, I was told. But we'll be feeling better next week and want to get back to life and that's when we make mistakes... Not looking forward to reporting this to my husband, even tho he is very sweet...

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
16 days out and finally figured out how to use this site. Had a TOT sling, VH and rectocele March 29. Mostly doing okay except for a UTI and continued frequent urination. Just had to leave a movie cause I had to pee! Hoping this is just swelling that will subside. Wish I'd done more research in advance. Have been told by three docs I needed this, but geesh, will the bladder thing improve? Other than that, the rectocele repair is great, and like many of you I have NO patience. Start working part-time next week and am dreading it for psych reasons!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom "sisters."

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
quick update.
hurts to breathe, sit, lay down or stand. living on motrin every 3 hours. funny now that I have this rib thing, my belly hardly hurts. lol If anything this rib thing has set me back. Since it hurts to breate, I don't even attempt the stairs. I can't drive as it hurts to move too much. The best way to describe this pain is the gas pain from right after surgery multiplied by 500 bazillion.
It's scary as sometimes I can't even catch my breath. then I hurt more.
Well time to rest some more
Keep healing well ladies. Thank you for the support.
Lizzy

Please rest well! Maybe you should be eating eggs and beef and other iron rich foods because of the blood loss? But if you take iron pills, remember to do the stool softeners again... Thinking of you...

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
I have NO IDEA how it happened. The doc thinks that maybe due to my sleeping on the couch and recliner, I moved the wrong way trying to protect my belly.
I feel like an idiot actually. I was doing so well. On track w/ my healing from my hyster and now THIS! I actually got mad at my hubby tonight. I was in LOTS of pain and when he asked what I wanted him to do, I told him to just go to bed, after all he is tired (like I'm not??????). He has been taking such good care of me he didn't deserve that. I need to remember I'm still healing from my hyster. I'm going to make him a card on the computer after I take my next motrin. I'll have to stand though as sitting is more painful.
I'm one of those people that if it can happen, it will happen to me.
thanks for letting me vent. Time to find the motrin.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
I feel awful for those of you who have had setbacks. This kind of surgery is bad enough without all the added problems. Chin up, we have each other.
I too, have been anxious to feel "like myself" again. I guess a certain amount of pain just comes with the healing process. I can't put clean sheets on the bed, can't plant flowers outside, and cannot even get comfortable in bed.
Since I have this giant abdominal incision, I am always scared it will pop open. I keep having sharp pains in the groin muscle area and some a little higher; what is causing this????????????
Please tell me that next week will be better.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012
Wow, JC. Hopefully you are doing okay this morning and the rest of our recovery will be uneventful.
I had my TAH on March 30th. So, 15 days post op and doing well. Too well. It seems that I am right back to life as it was before surgery. Bleh...
I am quite sore today, but haven't had any Advil yet. Still taking stool softeners and prune juice but feel really bloated and constipated today. I hope things get moving. Have a full belly on top of the swelling is causing some discomfort.
