Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

I had an Abdominal Hysterectomy surgery on the 26th of March, doc took stitches out on the 3rd (a week later), everything was fin until my husband and I were walking back to my car and my incision opened up about 3 inches across 7cm across inside and 6cm deep. Doc said this happens sometimes but hubby is now having to pack my wound and keep me doctored every day, which he doesn't mind, he has become very good at it, and I am now 3 weeks post op and feeling frisky, not in bed as much now but still have alot of pain mostly in my belly and burning around the wound but not having to take pain meds as much mostly an hour before changing packing and at night before bed so I don't hurt in the morning, taking regular showers now which feel really good but I have to take them before my dressing changes it can't get wet unless it is being changed so its the best time to do it. Incision is getting smaller not having to use as much gauze and home health isn't having to come out but once a week now, which is great. Can't wait for my last 3 weeks to be over with so I can get back to my daily routines. I have had so many changes in my body, libido is gotten so much better and here I was thinking I was going to lose it but it has been the opposite, I don't know if it is because we have been without for so long or if it is the surgery itself that has made it better, but all I can say is OMG. The only menopausal symtoms I have had or noticed are the sweats and hot flashes that are really bad, a little moody but not bad and some sleeplessness but with the meds I get alot of sleep, I have enjoyed all the extra help around the house since I have been out of commission I might have to let them keep doing it after I completely heal so I can have a little relief from all of the dishes and clothes that have to be washed on a daily/weekly basis. LOL!!!!

If you enjoy series books another good series that is a super easy read is Janet Evoniviche's Stephanie Plum series. They are about a woman attempting to become a bail bondsman and having a very hard time of it with a lot of funny things happening and fun and hilarious characters.
hawkeye13lady,

While I LOVE Roake... I have my own McNabb. My husband is a computer geek!! LOL!!!! However my hubby does have more fashion sense than McNabb... Thank God!
Re: Stephanie Plum... are you team Ranger or Team Morelli? LOL

Yesterday was not that bad. I'm still in lots of pain due to my dislocated rib. I slept for 4 hours last night so that is a GREAT thing!
My hormones are all over the place. Laughing one minute and crying the next. I can't wait for this part to be over...hopefully soon?
My hubby has been so patient with me. He has explained to the kids (14 & 17) the reason for my moods and to just love me and do what I say! LOL!
As for Sex..... WE CAN'T WAIT! Due to my exploratory surgery in February, our [intercourse] sex life has been non-existant since Feb 1!!!! We have fooled around like a couple of kids, but OH BOY I can't wait. I'm nervous, but .... I can't wait!

We have been un-pinned! That means we are getting further from our surgery dates, and closer to healing!!
I am still having ups and downs in my recovery, but time will heal us, as long as we don't make the work of healing our bodies are doing even harder.
This week I am expected to gp to the university 3 days, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Tuesday (tomorrow) I am to receive an award, and Friday and Saturday I have to present my thesis and be there for other presentations.
The award ceremony for sure will require dressing up. I live about an hour from the school which is in Toronto, and driving down there can be stressful in the best of times. I am thinking about not going to the award ceremony but I feel badly about missing it.
I spoke to my professor about not attending for all the other presentations because of the surgery, and just doing my own and leaving. She told me that would have a negative impact on my grade.
I am stressed!

I had been told by my pre-op nurse that there was to be no penetration, but fooling around (once you feel like it) was just fine. We have fooled around (almost daily) since the spotting stopped. The first orgasm was probably too soon (about 10 days post-op) and I was in a bit of discomfort and spotted again the next morning. But since then it's been amazing! It was actually a huge fear of mine with this surgery that things would be lost, but they aren't.. it's even better! This past week (today I'm 21 days post-op) has been the best, hence why I am counting down the days till my 6 week mark!!!!

But Im about ready to call the dr to see if its just nothing in the vagina or if its nothing that will cause orgasm (because that my friends would be amazing right now!! LOL) Hubby and i still are not back in the same bed, because (embarrassingly enough) there are times that we were both so aroused that we have started to fool around in bed while we were sleeping and were terrified of that scenario happening.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

Good morning sisters! At 19 days post op, still feeling great! We had such a beautiful March here in MN, and now we've had 3 weeks of cool windy weather here. I'm telling everyone I'll take the blame for the crappy weather- it's Mother Nature keeping me out of my gardens and inside out of trouble! We did have a lovely day this past Saturday- up to 72 degrees, so my Knight in Shining Armor (leather) saddled up his steed (Harley) and took this punctured Princess for a ride. (Doctor approved- I can ride passenger but cannot drive my own for 6 weeks.) It felt so good to be out in the fresh air! And suprisingly- my loose jeans felt fine! Sure felt weird to be in "normal" clothes again! Life is slowly returning to normal. About all the posts on here for those who retained an ovary or both- and moodiness... my doc said since mine are still there I would still have the hormonal moodiness that I used to have those few days a month, just no period to go with it. I've spoken to a couple friends who've had hysters and said after a couple months even that went away too! I hope so!!
Happy healing to everyone

Hey princesses, I am almost at three weeks, one day shy, and like many, am struggling not to overdue it. I have had diarrhea again for the last two days with lots of cramping. I want to feel normal again, but know this will take time.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Mar 26-Apr 01,2012

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks for me, and the weather here in northern Minnesota is awful! 5-6 inches of snow on top of an inch of ice. No school today and it looks like October again!
I'm feeling much better than last week. I am still sore and sleeping isn't going great. I can only sleep on my back or my right side. But I think, for me, the worst is over! 17 days til my post op appt and 19 days til the concert I'm attending in Mankato. I've had my tickets since early February, and I am going!
