Vag repairs--anyone had that?

It's been 4 weeks and one day since my hyster. (LAVH/BSO)

I've done so well. However, I had my vag opening repaired (made smaller, actually) because my big babies had 'enlarged' me so much. Plus my cervix had tried to come through. Where she sewed me up down there still stings SO much and I can't POSSIBLY imagine that my dh and I could do anything in two weeks. I can't imagine two MONTHS.

Has anyone ever had repair work done like that? I am still oozing some yellowish stuff, but the doctor said it sounded normal. I have no fever and feel fine. There's also some rust color, but she said that was fine as well.

Thanks if anyone can offer any advice or words of wisdom.

Vag repairs--anyone had that?

Hi Vicki

I also had vaginal repair to fix a rectocele (rectal prolapse) along with my TVH. As a result, I had episiotomy-like stitches on the perineum. Initially, that was the only pain I experienced. This lasted for about 3 weeks. It also meant that I extended lifting and straining restrictions.

Since you've already consulted your doctor and were assured that you were recovering on target, I would suggest using your peri bottle, filled with warm water, to relieve the sting. If you don't have one, you can use a clean condiment (mustard or ketchup) bottle to spray the area or a wash-cloth soaked in warm water to gently pat the area. I found that doing this provided great relief.

If the symptoms continue or worsen, do not hesitate to contact your doctor, once again.

Sending healing thoughts your way.

Thank you--I completely forgot about that peri-bottle! I should have been given one in the hospital, but they probably didn't think about it. I LIVED with that bottle for several of my births. Eventually I got so large that I didn't need it at all. :-( My last baby was nearly 9 lbs (not my largest) and I didn't stretch or anything....I was already 'way big enough for her to come out. Not good.

I will try to find a bottle. It does feel EXACTLY like an episiotomy. I knew the feeling was familiar, but I'd forgotten why!!

Thank you again!

Vag repairs--anyone had that?

Hi,

I had a rectocele and a cystocele repair done at the same time as my hyst, and I agree with Dany that that area was where I felt the most discomfort. I also got some Tucks and patted that area with them. The witch hazel in the Tucks seemed to help.

Sex may be painful for awhile. It still is a little bit uncomfortable (almost 5 months post-op), but is getting easier each time. When you are given the OK by your doctor, if you don't feel ready yet, wait a while. My DH was very understanding and didn't want to hurt me. The first few times we used A LOT of lubricant - last time, we didn't need any.

I hope you'll feel better soon.

Karen

Thanks--I have a VERY understanding dh as well. With one of our children we couldn't do anything for the entire pregnancy.

I'm actually glad to know it's taken you that many months. I thought there was something wrong with me thinking I wouldn't be ready in two weeks.

Vag repairs--anyone had that?

I had major repairs in that area and had another episiotomy, but this time with the stitches inside of me instead of outside like they were when I had babies.

Straining to have a bm and wiping are my painful factors. I have used the peri-bottle a great deal in the last 4 weeks.

Something strange...I think the doc must have removed some of my excess skin because I am using so much less toilet paper to wipe after urinating. Very weird, I know...but it doesn't seem as if it's so deep any more. Maybe I'm crazy!

Yes--when I wipe it hurts--even from a bm--any kind of wiping hurts. I can't believe I didn't think about Tucks either!

You all are SUCH a help!

Thank you again.
