Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 02-Apr 08,2012

Update: 3 days post-op, and today has been a seriously low-energy day. Oh well, I am going with it!

Compression stockings: I had them, too, and really enjoyed them. The squeezing felt nice. It got to be a pain having them hooked and unhooked to get up for the bathroom, so I just left them off after a while.

BM: This was a big fear of mine. I have been eating prunes (which I love), drinking as much as I can and taking an OTC stool softener at night. I had one BM yesterday morning, and one this morning. (Is that TMI? LOL) It felt weird, but wasn't painful.

I am so sorry that some of you are having such trouble with pain meds./management. Hang in there, Princesses!

I am feeling much better. My hysterectomy was yesterday at 12:30pm. Hopefully I can go home to tomorrow. I had an insane amount of pain in my back that they are trying to alleviate and we are getting there. I was just able to eat some real food after 36 hours so yay. I am amazed at what I can do. Walk, lay on my tummy, bend over, shower, sit upright, etc....hopefully I will be in my own bed tomorrow. I already feel lots better but then again I just got dosed up on all pain mess so we will see again in the morning. Be well everyone.

Day 4: Finally a day where I can sit in a regular chair (carefully) and lay on my side! Of course my sleep is all messed up now and here it is the middle of the night and there is no sleep in sight. Ive watched enough TV for a lifetime by now. I started reading a book now so Ive switched my brain energy a little haha.
Ive been staying at my sisters house and that is starting to wear out its welcome because it is not just me but my two kids as well. Hopefully we'll go home this weekend even if I cant drive myself someone can drive us home. Change of scenery and comforts of my own bed would be nice for a few days until we have to be back here so my kids can get rides to school easier.
I have to say Ive never been so happy to not be bleeding! I expected spotting for a few days and I only had a lil the first day. My blood pressure is great. I cant wait to be back on my feet and living life as a brand new girl!

Hi, is everyone on here, really just resting ? Or are they doing little bits , although my hubbie tells me not do things there seems to be a sarcasm in his voice ! We have 3 children that he is dealing with, I know they are hard work after all that's my life. But he is making it all look such hard work !!! He is even at the moment stropping around as apparently he has nothing to wear !!! Oh dear how the roles have changed !! !!

Hi carriepalaith - I had a TVH but my consultant was nothing in the vagina for 6 weeks, including bath water. I guess showering is different and perhaps you should just check as you probably have a dressing etc. Just take it easy, rest and don't lift anything at all at this early stage is the best advise. Take each day as it comes slowly you'll see the difference.

Take care

Just remind him that you have had major surgery and you need to rest. Take each day as it comes and I can't say enough that you'll only heal once from this. I think because people can't physically see a scar, stitches, or wound, they automatically assume you are over it. Milk it for the 6 weeks until your check-up, all the ladies deserve that!

Hugs

And you will - I am 15 weeks and have never felt so good. I still have to remind myself that I had surgery. In the UK, we are not allowed to drive for 6 weeks so make sure you follow your consultant's advise or ask the ladies on the forum. We're all here to help and support.

Have a good day

My surgery was April 4th and I am hoping to go home today. I am sleeping a lot but managing my pain with Tylenol. I still haven't had any real food as the cream soups are still making me nauseous. It could be that I don't like cream soups! I am so looking forward to going home as I am on a busy ward and there are always so many people around visiting that it is hard to really rest!

Hi CarriePalaith. I had a dVH on mon morn and was discharged tues. instructions were no lifting of anything over a gallon of milk for two weeks. Shower is fine but no scrubbing of the incision area. Just let the water run down and pat the area dry. If there is any bleeding, you can use a band aid but just make sure the area stays dry. No baths, no sex, no tampons for 6 wks, and lots of rest.

Hope that helps and your recovery goes smoothly.
