i have sat up in the recliner with a pillow on abdomen so the pup doesnt jump up...but i have to say even the pillow hurts a ton.
cant even stand my nightgown rubbing against me and i am three weeks post op.
i seem to be having more pain and maneuverability issues than most.
my doc is hours away and cant for the life of me imagine the car ride there...even if i had someone willing to drive me.
is anyone else out there hurting this much?
i hope not....but strangely a little bit b/c it is worrying me that i feel so far behind.
Zenobia, I know exactly how you feel. I have felt much worse the past few days than I have any the rest of my recovery. I'm in a lot more pain and it seems to be concentrated on my left side, where my one ovary is (I lost the other one a few years ago, but we were able to keep my left one so I didn't go into menopause with the hysterectomy).

I know it's been three weeks, but I seriously feel like I'm taking a giant step backward. I was doing great for awhile - taking short walks every day and just resting. Maybe I overdid it and something is wrong now. I don't know.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon. I hope and pray everything is ok. I feel plain lousy.

I felt great today, took what I hope is my last pecocet tonight, I think I will be ok with tylenol and motrin. Ive had 3 perscriptions since April 1st, I really dont want to look like a "seeker". Has any one tried naproxen for post op pain? I made banana bread, I seem to be cooking or baking ALOT, I think its the bordem from being home. And I went to a AA meeting (Im a recovering alcoholic), it hurt to sit for an hour but I
did it. I just hope i didnt over do it, and whats with my belly being so sensitive, I tried my spanx this morning I thought it would help, um no! I hurt so bad and were suppose to wear a belly binder? And my staples were out 2 weeks ago and I have no external stiches my incision is healing nice but my belly is so sensitive. Weighed myself too, havent lost a pound since my surgery im 3 pounds heaver then when I delivered my son, 14 years ago. i cant wait to join a gym, Thank you for all your posts and support, its so comforting to know that Im not going through this alone. We can and will get through this, just rember that we are probally some of the strongest ppl on earth and so used to taking care of everyone else. Let others take care of you, be good you yourself.

Hearing you on the comfortable clothes thing and swelly belly. I have one pair of pants I can wear and now that it is starting to get cold here in Australia I am glad I only have nursing appointments every two days so I can wash and dry them for the next time I seriously need to get the energy up to go shopping for some comfy pants!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 02-Apr 08,2012

Hi all. Welcome newcomers!

Its been a couple of days since I posted. Since I've had the catheter removed, I feel SO much better. Still have achy pains in my lower tummy (kinda like cramps), and swelly belly in the evenings.

I am having terrible insomnia like a couple others of you. Dr. gave me elavil to help me sleep before the surgery, and when I remember to take it, I seem to get to sleep a little quicker, but I'm still up until at least 2am!!! I've seen the sun come up several nights.

For those of you on HRT...Does it help you sleep? I checked out the link for the hormones part of the forums, and there were a couple posts that kinda sounded like it might. I'm going to read a bit more. Dr. gave me a prescription for low dose, but I smoke, so I really don't want to fill it unless I have to.

I'm slowly creeping back into my work routine. It's been a lot of stand to make something, come lay on the bed and do computer work. I overdid it on Wed., and was up late in pain. Today I wasn't up and around but about 4 hours total, with lots of sitting or lying down breaks.

My mind seems to be much clearer since I'm off the narcotic pain meds, which allows me to answer e-mails and update web stuff without worrying about saying something 'off'.

Hugs and squeezes all around.
Stay healthy, and remember, resting is not a bad word, and it doesn't mean just sitting down for a few minutes!

Happy dancin' ladies!

Glad to hear that you are feeling better without the catheter, they are horrible things.

I am with you on the hormones, going to see doc next week as the headaches/migranes, sleeplessness and all day and night sweats are getting a bit old.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 02-Apr 08,2012

Ruthie S and Smilinblondi - thanks for the kind words, they meant so much. You are so supportive..

Sorry haven't posted in a few days..I picked up a head cold from dd and that coupled with brain fog was rough.
Update: Post DaVinci total hysterectomy with gallbladder removed. Endometrial cancer with lymph disection/ Cancer free.

I had my post op visit with surgeon. Main complaints are brain fog, night sweats, and insomnia. My doc said to try to Remifin (Black Cocosh) to help with night sweats and possible brain fog.
She doesn't want me on hormones due to endometrial cancer, since this type of cancer can grow in breast and colon.
I guess brain fog is my biggest worry...Anyone find anything to help?
I had to see my family doctor because blood pressure was up.
She increased my med and since I am still anemic from those heavy periods, she said it would be a good 3 months until I feel better. I am hoping some of the brain fog could come from the anemia???? I am cold almost always and the doc said that is from anemia.
I'm increasing walking a little every day, a little over a mile. No real pain....just soreness and stiffness. Taking Ibuprofen 800mg a couple times a day.
Praying for all of you for a quick recovery. I hope my update can benefit someone...When I read everyone's update, it helps me.

Not easy right now, my mom went into the hospital the Monday a(4/9) after my surgery. She is still in hospital with a multitude of issues. Right now she has been in ICU on a ventilator since Tuesday afternoon. I am trying to visit her twice a day, but not able to stay more than 30 minutes or so because I am getting tired myself. My day basically consists of getting up, taking my husband to work, visiting mom, coming home, resting as much as possible, take care of any business that is needed for my mom and myself, pick up husband from work, go to hospital. Since the ICU visiting hours stop from 6 pm - 8 pm we are trying to get there before 6 and then we come home so that I can get a good night's sleep. I am having some minor pains, nothing Advil won't take care of. I have been taking 2 Advil just about everynight because they help me sleep, not because of any pain. Also our 10 year old German Shepherd has starting having serious mobility issues on Monday of this week, so I'm afraid we may have to make a very difficult decision very soon. I am trying to keep it all together but I'm afraid it's catching up with me. We are planning on leaving for a VERY MUCH NEEDED Florida vacation on May 18th. I am hoping and praying that all is well or at least stabilized so that we can go.
As far as my healing goes, my external incisions are healing and not having any issues with them at all. I am still trying to not do too much. I may do a load of laundry a day, if that, and maybe load or unload dishwasher. My daily walking now consists of walking from the parking lot to my mom's hospital room, twice a day and walking to take care of any business needed. I have made a couple of trips to WalMart and Grocery Store with my husband but they have been very quick trips with very minimal lists of things to get. I'm not a "window" shopper anyway, so it's easy for me to go in and get right back out quickly (as long as check out line isn't too long).
I go back to work parttime on May 7th then full time after our vacation. I am glad that I have this time to take care of things for my mom and not have to worry about work also.
Congratulations to all of he sisters that are well on the road to recovery. I am keeping all of the sisters that are having some issues during their healing process in my thoughts. I have been trying to keep up with the posts to see how everyone is doing.
thoughts are with you and your family
hope your mom getts better real soon hun
take care of yourself
hugs Melissa

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 02-Apr 08,2012

Good Morning Ladies

Yesterday was my 3 weeks post op
I thought I would share my story.
I am 39 years old I will be 40 in June.
My daughter is 22 in August and my son is 18 in Dec.
I got engaged to a wonderful man and my best friend in September of last year and getting married this September.

When I was recomended to have a hysterectomy I was so upset and I dont know why,not like we planned to have any more children. He also has a 22 year old daughter. We are happy the way we are.

I had my hysterectomy because i had fibroids they caused some pain and very heavy bleading.I also had them pushing on the tube from my kidney to my bladder causing infections.I was schedualed to have only my uterus taken with a possibility of having to take one or both of ovaries. For the last 7 months of more I was also having severe pain on my right side. I have had this pain for the last 2 years but no one knew why.pain got worse in the last 7 months that i was having it almost all the time.I was getting worn out eay everyday.

I woke up from surgery to find out that they had taken my ovaries too. When I saw the dr the following day he told me that I was a mess inside that had alot of scarring and things were fused together almost like cement. He said he had to take them and that he had to leave my cervix in because it was cemented to my bladder and he did not want to damage it.Ihad an emergency c section with my youngest and and emergency gallbladder surgery in 1999.My gallbladder was fused to my liver.

One good thing is that the pain I was in up until I had the surgery I have not had since I woke up from surgery. My body was thrust into menopause .Was very emotional and having hot flashes.Day 2 after my surgery I had a melt down,I cryed for hours.I'm still very emotional(already was to start with)
I am on the estrogel and advil for pain.
I have been having bad dreams ever since my surgery. I freeze all day but I seem to get warm in the evening and have to take cloths off.I also sweat to death when I'm sleeping.

Hope everyone is having a good day today
Melissa
