Lower back pain

Hello - I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from low back pain after a total hyst? It's been 2 years and I can't find a comfortable chair to sit in. I appreciate any feed back. Thanks.

Hi RubyJames and welcome! So sorry you are dealing with pain and discomfort. I've dealt with low back pain from time to time over the years but never attributed it to anything connected to my TAH/LSO. I'm a mid-distance runner, so most of it has come from the running.

Though recently I had just a slightly sore back for no reason. There were a few things going on, but at one point BubbaQ and I both thought we were reliving something from my pre-hyst days. My brain refused to connect the dots, but i made an appointment with my . I'm a week post-op now having had a good-sized fibroid removed. Recurring fibroids were the reason for my hyst, and in hindsite all the signs were there, but I figured they were from any number of other things.

Backs can be delicate and tricky. I would definitly visit a doctor, if you suspect its related to your hyst, visit your gyn, if not your GP or a chiropractor.

For me, when the pain doesn't go away after a couple days, it's time to seek treatment.

PS as a runner, sometimes the solution to my knee or back pain has been as simple as changing my shoes

Re: Lower back pain

I have had back trouble since my abdominal total hysterectomy 8 1/2 weeks ago. However, I've always had lower back problems which flared up this time due to the required inactivity and not being able to do the lower back exercises I've always done to keep that pain in check. Now that I've been able to start back to abdominal exercises, I've also been able to resume my routine lower back exercises which are helping. I would suggest seeing an orthopedist if core exercises do not work. You may have vertibrae/disk bulge/misalignment.

Hi Ruby James, I have been experiencing lower pelvic back pain two mos. after my total hyst done in May. Went to a sports med Dr. and X-ray showed SI dysfunction in the sacaryliac/pelvic area, which is from weakened muscles and hips that are not aligned correctly. I have just started physical therapy to strengthen the areas and some exercises they gave me for at home. I hope you can find help, don't accept that it is normal to have pain there.
