new med is not working- this pain is awful!!!

Hi ladies!! I just need to vent right now i guess. Again. My pain has been really bad the past couple of days The med that the urologist gave me so far is not helping at all. It is really a "diagnostic tool" more than anything else. What it does is it numbs the bladder so if my pain goes away then i guess thats a good sign that my pain is bladder related. Hope i am not confusing anybody........ What i forgot to ask the dr. is how long would it take to start working (if it does ). Maybe i better call him tommorrow & ask. This pain is sooooo bad- its right up thru my vagina- feels like a knife is stuck up there I just dont know how much i can take- it was horrible today at work. Guess if it gets so bad that i cant stand it anymore then i will have to go see my primary care dr. Thanks for your support- i need it right now!! 's to all of you.

new med is not working- this pain is awful!!!

Thanks Kim & Judester!! I called my urologist this morning & talked to his nurse. She said that the med may take awhile to work & explained that the bladder heals "from the inside out". She stressed drinking a lot of water- which i am trying real hard to do ( i HATE water! ) . What is strange is they are calling in elavil- which is an anti-depressant- for pain so i can sleep at nite. Have any of you ever heard of such a thing? I am not questioning it- i figure the dr. knows best, just wondering if any of you ever heard of an anti-depressant used for this purpose. At this point i will try anything!!! Thanks again for your kind thoughts!

Susan,

I have heard of this! I was taking Zoloft for quite a while...my doc prescribed it for Fibromyalgia. Anti-depressants are also used to 'depress' pain...and quite often they can help you have a better nights sleep. They can take several weeks to be effective though.

I wish I could enlighten you more....but I'm sure another sister will be along very shortly. You can also do a search on Anti-depressants...and I'm sure you will find many threads from sisters who are taking them for various reasons.

Sending you many more 'S and please let us know how you are making out.

Susan,
I've been given anti-depressants several times over the last year or so for pain related problems. My gastrologist even prescribed an anti-depressant to calm my tummy. It is my understanding now that it is pretty common to prescribe an anti-depressant for pain. Usually the doseage is smaller than if it were being used for depression.

Good luck Susan, I hope things get better for you soon.

Susan,
My Gyn. also put me on elavile. I didn't stay on it for very long. It gave me very tender breasts and I gained like 6 lbs in one week. I looked up the side effects on the internet and they were not good. It also made me very groggy all day long and did not help the vaginal pain at all. Now I'm taking ultram. It doesn't help that much but it is better than over the counter meds. I go to a new Gyn. the 26th of Feb. maybe he can figure this out. I'm so sorry that you are in pain.

new med is not working- this pain is awful!!!

Susan,
I am 9 weeks post of TAB/BSO and have delt with the feeling of a bladder infection since about week 3. I have had urine tests, sonogram & IVP which all proved normal. The pain meds have not helped me either. My gyn said to wait another 10 days. Do these syptoms subside in time. Do you think this is part of the healing going on? My gyn also states that he will send me to a specialist to ck my colon. Not sure why. What do you think. Can this also be inflamation or do you think we just have to live with it? Tell me all you trials. HOpe we get relief soon. Prayer is my avenue and I'll keep you in mine. Linda

Sisterspike: I am so sorry you are in so much pain- i am in the same boat as you can see. You said they want to check out your colon- my GP put me on a med that stops colon spasms before she did anything else to see if this all was related to my colon. Needless to say the med didnt stop the pain & now i have been to the urologist. He is going to do a cystoscopy to see if there is anything wrong with my bladder- dr. was suspecting a fallen bladder. That is just around the corner on the 28th. I think my GP wanted to rule out the bladder & colon before she looks into it as being adhesions. I am probly going to go in to see her tomorow ( already had an app. for wed) because i have no more pain meds which i have been using very sparingly. Anyway, my pain is very strange in that it comes & goes. I can be fine for almost a wk. & then from out of nowhere i am doubled over! My pain does not feel like a bladder infection like you are having. Mine is like a stabbing pain in the vagina & sometimes to the left or right in lower abdomen. Also bad back pain & i have never till now had problems with my back at all. So that is my trials & tribulations- sorry to be sooooo longwinded!! I hope you can get some relief soon, i know how miserable it is to live with chronic pain. You hang in there girlfriend- be assertive with those drs. so they know you are serious about getting an answer to all this. Time for me to clean house (yuk).

Susan, Hope you get results soon. I know how it is to have all these unknowns & have to go through all tests & trials. I pray we get healed totally soon. I wonder if maybe some could be related to nerve problems?????? Looks like to me the adhesion thing would be looked at before bladder & colon. Who knows I get so tired of guessing. Its hard to keep my spirits up at times. I wish the very best for you and that you'll get answers soon. I'll keep you posted on what I learn along the way. My doc seems to think to give it more time. Please keep me posted on your findings as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Linda
