4 days....after hysterectomy

It is day four....had my surgery on 4/9....came home late yesterday afternoon. Had a good night, slept good, wasn't easy but I did, until abt 4:30 am when I woke up DH to help with drinking some water. Went back to sleep for a hour until my back started bothering me, so we got up and went out to the living room where I ended up sleeping on the recliner, with a pillow behind my back and head. I also have to deal with a cathedar, which I know I have to have until the doc sees me, but I wish I didn't have to need it. Trying to walk isn't easy but i am doing it, since I have a cath. At different times, I can feel the pressure to pee, which means, I get up which relieves the urge. The cath is working good....no problems there, just I think I am more than physically connected to it. Tired of having to deal with it, though. Sighs....

DH has been great, helping me with whatever I need, making sure I am ok and all. Helping me with the cath, walking, helping me sit and so forth. I am grateful and all....just wishing we did not have to go through this, but at least I have him, my dad, and mil....

I ate a decent breakfast...eggs and some toast. I also have something else to worry about: possibly being a diabetic. I was also given an antibitioc, pain meds, and some other meds for being a diabetic. I go see my primary care doctor next monday, then too see the other doctor on tuesday. I am hoping to get rid of the cath, not sure. I have been resting, drinking water, belching and passing wind. It has only been 4 days, but wishing it was next week, when i see the doctors. Had enough of this cath....but I will manage...

One of the cats...the oldest of the four has been very protective of me...keeping the others away from me and the cath. Well...I am sorry for the long winded post, but had a lot to say....

Re: 4 days....after hysterectomy

Hi Stephanie!
Hang in there! Try to get plenty of rest and sleep/naps, along with getting up, and moving around too. Sounds like you are doing fine, the first week is such a huge recovering time. It seems like we don't get long amounts of sleep at one time. I would start out in bed and end up in the recliner a couple hours later.
Hopefully each day will get better and better and you cannot be too long winded on this site!

Sounds like you are doing great! What is the reason for the catheter?

Re: 4 days....after hysterectomy

The doctor, when he was taking a huge fibroid and the uterus out, he nicked the bladder...the uterus was on the bladder...which was the reason i had to use the restroom so much.....

I don't feel like I am doing great....not sure what i am doing with this cath and all....following what i was told....but still doesn't feel like i am doing it right....I do know I will get through this....just take time, i guess....thank you

Re: 4 days....after hysterectomy

It's been FOUR days! Cut yourself some slack . That stinks the dr knicked your bladder. I bet you will feel sooo much better after the catheter is out.

My sister slept only on her recliner for a week after surgery. Do what you need to do to get some rest!
