Re: Does anaesthetic affect mental focus?

I am on ibuprofen most of the time, but I do have hydrocodone for the rougher days. I wake up very sore most mornings, so I do take hydrocodone almost every day - one 5/325 tab - but once I get moving, I usually only need ibuprofen for the day, and sometimes not even that. But gosh, the soreness when I get up! It's SO bad. My husband says I toss around a lot in my sleep, so that is probably why. I have a lot of weird dreams, too...

Re: Does anaesthetic affect mental focus?

Ladies, I was on pain meds for only a week. I realized they were contributing to my nausea so I stopped taking anything except over the counter ibuprofen. Every once in a while if I was really in pain, I took 1/2 of a hydrocodone. It took me 4-5 weeks to feel better mentally. I was really foggy and kind of depressed. About week 5 I started feeling much better. Now I am actually more focused and clear headed than before surgery.

Hope everyone continues to have a successful recovery.

Re: How long are you on pain meds?

I took Oxycodone for about 3 weeks. Now I take Vicoprofen. If the pain is not that bad, I take Anacin or Nabumetone.

For nausea, I take a Ginger pill, Zofran, or Atarax.

Re: How long are you on pain meds?

I took 4 Percoset during the first week post-surgery, and one last week after I did too much and was miserable. I took Motrin 600 for the first two weeks, every 6 hours. That's it. I am sometimes sore, but overall I have MUCH less pain without my uterus.

Re: How long are you on pain meds?

I took hydrocodon and Ibuprofen for first 4 days. Have not taken anything since. I just use a heat pad if I hurt. But my pain is been very easy to handle without pills..

Re: How long are you on pain meds?

They were giving me pills in the hopital for the two days I was there. Not really sure what they were. I do know I didn't have any morphine after the first 12 hours.

I took tylenol the first day home from hosp (day 3) and didn't need anything after that.

Re: How long are you on pain meds?

I took Percocet for 5 days along with 600mg ibuprofen. Then just the ibuprofen for a few weeks. I was sure I'd need narcs longer but nope! Good luck.

Re: How long are you on pain meds?

My surgery was a week ago tomorrow and I am still taking the Percocet and 800 mg ibuprofen. Still have quite a bit of pain and just find I do better if I keep taking them. Hope I'm not a wimp!! I'm thinking age may be a factor--if you're in the younger set maybe you recover more quickly. I am 56. Hope I'm not the only one out there still taking meds....
