Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

On two of my incisions, there were scabs and I was picking at them (I know, shame on me!). I didn't realize that stitches were under there working their way out. My other incisions have healed beautifully. They are really bothering me.

Has anyone had this happen and how long do they take to dissolve. I don't see my doctor until May 3rd.

Re: Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

My incisions still have glue on them. Not sure if I have stitches under that or not. Do you have any blood or anything coming out of the one that is bothering you? Maybe put a call into your nurse just to be sure.

Re: Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

No blood or anything. They appeared to be a bit infected, but I have been putting neosporin on them and it looks like it has cleared up. Now it just looks like a hole with stitches coming out.

Re: Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

I had da Vinci also and a couple of my stitches had been sticking out too. Called at 2 weeks and the nurse told me that they should just dissolve and if they were still there at my 4 week follow up the doctor would just remove them, which he did.

Re: Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

Thanks Kris. The next time I see my doc is for the 4 week post op, I'll just wait until then unless I see it becoming infected.

Did it hurt when they took the stitches out?

Re: Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

You're welcome! It didn't hurt at all. I was a little nervous that it would but I have to say I didn't feel a thing. Actually there was one he decided to leave because he couldn't remove it without it hurting. He said it would just dissolve on its own. Keep us posted! : )

I'm glad it didn't hurt. I'm hoping that mine won't either, but maybe by then, they will have dissolved on their own.

Re: Help..stitches coming out of da Vinci insicions

I just put a band-aid over one because the plastic stitch is snagging on my shirts. The dr. offered to clip it when I come in @ 3 weeks. If it's bothering you then you should see about getting in to have the dr. clip them for you. I thought mine was infected but my DH (he's a paramedic) said unless it's oozing/a bunch is coming out/fever then it was just healing.

That's a good idea, I'll go slap a band-aid over them. They do keep catching on my shirt.

thanks!
