 to the other side, Ladies!!
It's great that so many of you are feeling well enough to give updates already!!!
Just wanted to remind you all of a few important things....
Drink plenty of water
Walk as much as you can
Stay ahead of your pain
Get plenty of rest
Follow 's orders completely and carefully
And last, but most certainly not least......
Please keep in mind that this is a marathon, not a sprint and you only have one chance to heal right!!!!
Sending you all

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 30-May 06,2012
I had the Da Venci assisted hysterectomy, rectocele repair and bladder sling (mesh) on Tuesday the 1st. Today has been my worst day. I am really sore. I haven't had a bowel movement yet, but I'm really dreading it. I don't have a constant stream of urine. I start to pee, then stop, then start to get up and it starts again. Anyone else having this issue?

I had LAVH and BOS and sling on 4/30.....I was sent home with a catheter, so I do not know yet if that's a problem. I get tested again tomorrow. Really hope I get to keep it out. As far as soreness goes just don't get behind on whatever you are taking for meds. Write it down everytime. If you are on more than one thing try to alternate them. Just rest housekeeping will wait for you!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 30-May 06,2012
Had my hysterectomy this morning 5/3 at 7ish. It was totally amazing. The staff was great at answering any lingering questions before surgery. All I remember is the nurse saying he was ready to give me my "margarita"..and wallah..I was out. Next thing I remember is in recovery room..Dr looking at me saying it went well. I could not comprehend that it was over. They were removing stuff and I was just in disbelief that I didn't remember being rolled into the operating room..or ANYTHING about surgery.
After about 30 mins they rolled me into my room, my hubby joined me and everything was great. It was 10am. I had no pain. By noon, I was drinking my starbucks iced coffee. I was dozing in and out..you know how noisy it is in the hospital...everyone talking like they are at a picnic. (especially the nurses) At 1pm, the nurses inserted 200ccs in my foley to go into my bladder..and then I peed ..out it all came..so delighted. Imagine that.
Dr. came right in after that and asked if I was ready to go home. Yep! So..by 2:30pm my hubby was driving me home. We stopped to pick up some soup for lunch/dinner. Taking one pain pill every 4hrs..and drinking lots of water and a few prunes to keep from getting constipated. After a nap, I woke up and went outside to walk the dog alittle bit..just around the house..to let out some gas. I am tired, alittle sleepy..but..totally amazed at how great I feel besides the few discomforts.
Now, I must say..I have had two c-sections, years ago, one 26yrs ago and the last one 19yrs ago, I breezed through them as well. I am a very positive person..I almost always view the glass as "half full" instead of "half empty"..so I tell myself everything is going to be okay..and believe it. Plus, I have a high tolerance for pain. But..this is day one...we will see how the next few days go. My hubby is home with me...and my momma is gonna be home with me on Saturday. I am looking forward to some R & R these next couple of weeks.
I want to say a big thank you for the ladies that take care of this site and all the "sisters" that have shared their experiences. This has been a wonderful site filled with love and sharing. Those yet to have their surgery..my prayers and thoughts are with you ladies. Those that have had their surgery, keep loving yourself and get lots of rest.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 30-May 06,2012
Emalim,
I don't have exactly what you're describing, but I do pee, stop, then start again several seconds later. I had my surgery on Tuesday, and I know it will improve.
Iamtobi,
I completely understand about the gas pains...WOW! I swear that is where all of my pain is coming from.
I hope all of you are doing as well as I am. Other than bleeding from my belly button two days in a row after going home from the hospital (and two trips to the doc's office and eventually more stitches), I'm doing really well. Only Advil since the hospital for me!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 30-May 06,2012
Laroja, you sound exactly like me. I'm sure that's why my two c-sections and hysterectomy went so beautifully. I was in and out of the OR in 1 1/2 hours. My doctor said it was the best one he ever did. Then he left and went on vacation...LOL I needed no pain meds, had a BM the same night I came home and have been doing wonderful ever since. I have had some small pangs here and there and I would get tired easily during the first three to four months after surgery but now It's all good. Do remember no matter how great you feel and how well everything went, you still had major surgery and this is your one chance to heal properly so treat yourself with extreme care and caution.

There are several threads that discuss abdominal binding. Some sisters had theirs put on them immediately after surgery and others (like me) purchased theirs after they left the hospital. It was my best friend for a long time.
