Anyone had these side affects??

So just had my 3rd round of chemo. Now I have a few new side affects.

This one is just odd. I wear contacts and last week was the first time I wore them while getting chemo. Today was the first time I wore them since and everything was blurry. I got home from work and took them out and it wasn't my vision - it was my contacts. Anyone have this happen and know why?? I wear disposables and tossed them - I will just put in a new pair tomorrow but thought it was odd. Does chemo affect contacts? Like does it absorb it or something?

I am also starting to get the neuropathy in my fingers. Does this keep getting worse from now or does it go away a bit before my next round. I am having a hard time typing, writing, etc. I don't know that I can last the next two months like this! I am hoping that it is like the other side affects and goes away after a few days.

Re: Anyone had these side affects??

Hi mcpackerfan,

I wondered how your 3rd round went. I just had mine yesterday. I have no idea why the Chemo would affect your contacts but it seems like it affects a lot of other things so it would'nt surprise me. I have the neuropathy a little in my fingers, too, but it seems to come and go. it gets better after each treatment and doesn't seem to have gotten worse. So I hope it's the same for you.

I really hope that your side effects in general don't get any worse with your next three treatments, too. Sending hugs and prayers for healing and comfort to you!

Re: Anyone had these side affects??

mnpackerfan, best of luck to you and I hope the side effects ease up. I've heard that alpha lipoic acid (vitamin supplement) can help with the neuropathy. You might check with your doctor as to whether that's allowable while you're having chemo.

Sorry I can't help about the contacts. Seems like it would make sense that the chemo could affect them.

Hang in there! Praying for you and all the others having treatments!

Re: Anyone had these side affects??

Heart & Home - side affects from this round are much much worse than the other two. Day three was the worst - I spent the day throwing up every time I ate or drank anything. I even went back the day after chemo for another iv of anti-nausau meds and they gave me a new kind of pill to take. And it didn't help. The muscle/bone pains are worse too, and now this neuropathy. Ugh. I keep telling myself I am half done with treatment. It is all downhill from here!

Re: Anyone had these side affects??

I can't say if the chemo affects contacts, but it does affect eyes. I had the side effect of some sort of dry eyes during carbo/taxol that started my second or third infusion. My eyeballs felt like they were getting stuck to the inside of my eyelids. It was weird. Good luck. I hope you are feeling better.

Re: Anyone had these side affects??

I agree with Anne21, check with your chemo dr about vitamins.

I got chemo (cysplaten 1x a week) with daily external radiation for 6 weeks. I was (happily) shocked that my medical oncologist wanted me to take B100 (twin labs) to minimize neuropathy. None of the oncologists wanted me to take vitamins A,C,E with doses greater than FDA regulation.

Re: Anyone had these side affects??

I suggested trying ice. My good friends hematologist would ice her fingers and toes during each chemo session....this is a new therapy, maybe only offered at teaching hospitals. As a result my friend had zero neuropathy. The ice keeps the chemo from getting to the tips of toes/fingers. I think it is worth asking the doc about.

Is there something about my post that breaks a rule...the other. One was removed..??

Mcpackerfan,
I'm really sorry you're feeling so crummy this round....are you doing any better today? This is my 3rd day now and I'm feeling not so good myself. I woke up with my hands itching and burning-that's a new one.I hope you can keep some food down today.
