Isn't it amazing how total strangers can feel so deeply for each other. God has many ways to use terrible situations for good. I am grateful I have found you all. Peace and strength to you all.

Re: Anxious - endometrial cancer found incl. in two lymph nodes

To my uterine cancer survivor friends: I start chemo on Friday, and was wondering if anyone has any advice. It is so strange, because after my hysterectomy, I feel to well. I am having trouble sorting out in my mind that I even NEED this treatment. Although my Dr. says, if I do not, the chances are 95%, that it will return. Well anyway...advice????

Re: Anxious - endometrial cancer found incl. in two lymph nodes

Teeth,
I hope everything goes smoothly for you on Friday. I don't know what chemo you are doing, I would guess carbo/taxol which is pretty standard for gyn cancers. It's not the easiest but you'll get through it. I had very little nausea with that regimin, and my appetite was great. My scalp hurt when my hair was falling out and had some leg pains that were pretty bad with the first infusion. After that i took l-Glutamine supplements and did not experience any aches or pains with the subsequent infusions. Bring something to do with you to chemo, it's a long stay of several hours. The Benadryl makes you sleepy/loopy so reading was not my choice because I couldn't pay attention to it. A friend or family member with me was key to keep me calm and someone to talk to and pass time. Are you going to do radiation too?

Best wishes chemo is easy on you but zaps all cancer. I didn't have chemo but want to send some support to you as you go through it. (My mom did have carbo/taxol and I went with her each time, it was a full day of labs, waiting, chemo, and I think having a companion there really helped). Let us know how you are doing as you go along so we can support you.

Re: Anxious - endometrial cancer found incl. in two lymph nodes

Teeth, Good wishes for Friday. I hope it goes well for you. As the others have said, if you can take a friend or someone with you, do. It really helps. I had Cisplatin over 6 weeks with concurrent radiotherapy. It's a uncertain time waiting, but I think you'll find that once you start you will feel better about things, and time will pass really quickly.

I'm sending you loads of positive thoughts.......

Re: Anxious - endometrial cancer found incl. in two lymph nodes

Teeth,

I hope that everything goes well for you on Friday! You'll feel pretty good the day of your infusion due to all the pre-chemo meds they give you. They give a double dose of Benadryl, which makes you feel pretty sleepy. They'll also give you steroids and an anti-nausea drug so you won't feel sick at all that day.

The best advice I think is to take your anti-nausea drug at a regular schedule whether you feel like you need it or not. You will probably feel OK the following day, too. It's usually the 3rd day when it's pretty bad. You may get the bone pain and feel really tired and out of sorts for about 3 to 5 days then it gradually gets better day by day.

I had taxol/carbo and this is how it affected me anyway. It may not be totally the same for you because everybody is a little different. It does help to have someone go with you because you may not feel like driving home afterwards.

I hope all goes well and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Re: Anxious - endometrial cancer found incl. in two lymph nodes

Thanks everyone. I really helps to talk with someone who has been on this same journey. I did find out that I will be getting taxol/carbo too. I am on a 1x every 3 weeks rotation for 6 times. Probably radiation to follow. That scares me more than the radiation. I have read there can be lots of damage to other organs with this treatment. The advice was just what I needed. You are all the best. Just a little heads up really helps me. How about white blood cells? I am a dental hygienist....thus the name, teeth...haha, and I don't know if it is safe to work or not. What do you think?
