Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Day 6 post-op: I'm doing okay I suppose. I'm still really sore from the surgery. I'm having soreness around my bellybutton from my incision (TLH) and my pelvis is sore and feels like someone has been sitting on it or something. So unfortunately, I have still been having to take my narcotics and ibuprofen regularly and hoping that will soon pass since my doctor seems like she doesn't like to give out narcotics. Don't get me wrong, I don't want them either, but if I need them, I need them.

On the good side of things, I have been having a BM pretty regularly (everyday).

Even though I still have my ovaries, they are all over the chart. One minute I'm happy, the next sad, the next angry over something silly - it's quite ridiculous.

Wishing everyone healing thoughts.

I'm hoping we all have swift and easy recoveries. My surgery was on the 9th but I got my staples out today and it was pain free. Considering my swollen belly i thought it would be harder. Day by day!

Hey everyone, well im on day 6 and well lets just say my expectations for my healing was way too high, lol. Cupcake im like you, my emotions are so different from one minute to the next that is driving me INSANEEEEE!!!!! yesterday I had a moment in the hall where I stopped and in my mind popped up how empty i felt all of sudden in my abdomen. I almost started to cry but i didn't and i moved on with the day. I definitely know that i can't do alot, so i do a few things in the morning and the rest of the day i take it easy. I have moments where i feel awake and have energy and then i do a little walking and boom im all wore out. I think everything is on track with my healing. I do feel extra sore on my right side of abdomen though and i wonder did my doc have some extra work to do in that area. I will ask at my two week visit. Does anyone have this issue and i wonder should i worry? I will probably call my doc in the morning, lol. I have been reading on here quit a bit and have learned that some women are still having periods and period symptoms. I guess since i still have my ovaries, I will still have period symptoms? I hope I don't bleed though. So day 6 is still slight pain with more on my right side, lack of energy, tired, emotional( I wasn't to prepared for this part). My bowels are fine, urinating is fine, my appetite is like i will feel really hungry but i can't eat a too much which i like belly is swollen and heavy feeling. Im still trying to keep my positive attitude sometimes im tested with it. I just keep in mind there is light at the end of the tunnel and i won't feel like this forever. Stay strong sisters and i am thinking of you and your speedy recovery.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Hello - I had my vaginal hysterectomy on Monday, May 7th. I actually cannot even believe that I had surgery. I have not hardly had any pain, in the beginning it was more gas pain than anything. It has been one week and I am having a hard time NOT doing anything because I feel that I should be fine. Had my one week check up today and the dr said that even though I don't have the outside scar, the same surgery has taken place inside. So, I know I need to still rest, but I do feel great.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

ladies,

I wasn't on here much in the past two days and it's amazing to see how many more have jumped in to join the thread!! So happy to see you spending the time to get to know each other!! For those of you that are and may be a little shy to post...please come and join us...we'd love to hear your story and support you in your recovery!!!

If you are still in pain, please continue to take your meds regularly. It'll allow your body the time it needs to focus on getting you better and not dealing with the pain. Also, don't be afraid to ask your for a refill if you need it...you are your best advocate and need to be proactive in your recovery.

grannykat...I'm sorry that you are having a rough time and that there are other issues yet to be resolved!! Is your doctor suggesting another surgery? If so, when?

For all of you...please continue to take it easy! You may be healing well on the outside, but you have a lot of healing left to do on the inside.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Day 5 post-op and each day gets better and better. I am able to walk farther and farther each time I walk out in my neighborhood or go to the local park. My goal is to eventually make it totally around the lake without having to take a rest break or turn around and retrace my steps. The gas bubbles under my diaphragm and ribs that I posted about last night have gotten MUCH better today. I ended up actually doing my Incentive Spirometer exercises that the Respiratory Therapist told me to do while I was in the hospital. I was actually able to lye flat in bed last night on both sides and enjoy a great night's sleep for the first time since the surgery last week. Still dealing with gas coming out of both ends throughout the day--how long will this last? Pain hasn't been too bad of an issue. I haven't needed a pain pill for the past 2 days, praise the Lord, because those were backing up my bowels.

I thank all you ladies for going through this with me!!! It is really great knowing that WE are not alone, even though we are all in different parts of the globe. I encourage all of you that are having a rough go of it to hang in there because we all know that it is going to get better!!!! The Lord has not brought you this far to leave you!!
