Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Hello Sisters!!! Im so happy to see so many here & doing ok . I too had my date @ the castle today- @11:00. I had a DaTH, and was able to keep my 1 present ovary- :cheer;. Surgery was abt 3+ hours & I got to my room at 4:15.
Even though it was "only" (as anesthesiologist said) robotic I was able to have an epidural- surgeon knew there would be lots of endo & adhesions to clean up. I have felt grwat (i know that will likely change when I lose the epidural 2moro). As I was wheeled from the recovery room to my room with my dad coming along I said something I havent said ever. I told my dad I had NO PAIN (even with
Past epidurals I had breakthrough). A little later pain was starting to rear its ugly head- & we discovered that a connector on my epidural had snapped. Pain AND the bed got pretty wet. Thankfully there was a WONDERFUL anesthesia doc avail & he fixed it- my hero. He said it broke bc his partner hadnt taped it done enough. Its definately not going anywhere until we want it to now- so much tape & stuff that helps it stick better.
So, doing well except for some overall swelling (not a complaint), & bowels arent waking up. The epidural I have would allow for walking, but surgeon wants me only rolling in bed for today (day of surgery). I have an AMAZING nurse- kinda scared for shift change at 11pm- can I luck out like this AGAIN?! Ok, I really need to try to get some sleep. Best wishes for a restful night for all my sisters- May 9th sisters & beyond.

Isnt that an amazing feeling to wake up with NO pain?? I remember almost crying at the realization that the pain I had for years was there when I went to sleep and gone when I woke up. Of course I had surgery pain, but it was different....and it was temporary!!!

Glad you are doing well! Welcome to the other side!! Get some rest!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Day two home from the hospital. It hasn't been intolrable, just more irritating than anything. As much as I hate hospital beds it was easier to find a more comfortable position because I could keep the upper half of my body propped up better. Doc had already warned me about the "gas" pain and that's been the hardest part. Surgery went very well considering the size of my uterus (1385 grams) and despite all of the doctors warnings he was able to stay robotic but did have to do vaginal removal instead of DaVinci method. No belly scar, which is great. I made doc's "history" book with the largest uterus he has ever removed but all biopsy results came back clean and clear so we're on the mend. Out of curiosty I stepped on the scale to see about how much I had lost, not expecting much. The weight difference between pre surgery and post surgery right now is 10lbs!! Thank you all for the words of support and prayers I know were being said. My fellow sisters are amazing. To all others recovering, keep your chins up, follow doctors orders and take it slow, we'll get there and be SOOOOO much better at the end of all of this.

Traeleigh, yes it was wonderful & I think my dad almost cried (he'd never admit it though). It has been a long sleepless night (anything beyond 10 mins or so). I would love to go back to that "ride" between recovery & my room. I wasnt told about the epidural button (although in my undrugged state I would've just known- "drugged" not so much), so I got behind the pain. Been trying to catch up all night. Its not gas pains, but I do think walking the halls would help. Unfortunately no walking for me until surgeon's partner comes on rounds .

I hope all my sisters are sleeping well, or at least resting (like I am).

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Good morning to all my sisters,
I am doing pretty well with my recovery, but had a couple of questions...first, I had laproscopic sugery and one of my suture sites is seeping a tiny bit of blood. The nurse at my gynocologist office said it was not abnormal for the suture sites to bleed a little. Have any of you found that to be the case? Also, I am still feeling a little nauseous and I am now 3 days post op. is it normal to still feel shaky and nauseous? I am very sensitive to lots of meds so maybe all of the medicine has caused some stomach upset? Also have an ongoing headache that just won't go away. I guess I just need to know if anyone else is feeling these things? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Hi, sisters! I had my TLH and bladder sling procedure yesterday at about 7:30 am. It took the surgeon about 3 hours to complete my surgery because of adhesions from prior surgeries. He did note that he found endo on my ovaries though (I kept them). Yuck. I spent most of the day in a lot of pain and discomfort. I was given morphine, Tramadol and Percocet for the pain, which helped most of the day, but there were a couple times I felt that I needed more than I was allowed, but I got through it. I spent the night on the post-op floor. This morning I felt a lot better. I was able to pee after they removed my catheter so I did not have to go home with a "leg bag," thank goodness.

Today was rough, but I didn't require any morphine. I have been able to get out of bed and use the bathroom on my own. Walking is not as difficult as it was yesterday, but I do tire easily. I plan on staying in bed over the next few days, but I will walk when I can. I was discharged from the hospital this afternoon. I have Percocet and ibuprofen for pain (every 4 hours) and something for nausea (which I have not been, yeah!). I also was given Colace to help with bowel movements since the paid meds can make you constipated. I am nervous of having a BM though!

I feel about 50% better today than yesterday. My belly is really swollen and my back is killing me (probably from laying on my back for 36 hours+). I have some gas pains and my incision sites feel warm and tender. I have a lot of gurgling going on (in my abdomen) as well, but I think that's a good thing!

Well, I'm losing my train of thought (pain meds have kicked in!) so that's all I have for now. Looking forward to feeling even better tomorrow!

G'night!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

sisters!!! I'm glad to see that more are making it here and able to share your stories. You are all doing great!! Keep resting and when you can...it'll help with gas, constipation, and overall stiffness.

SwtPea630...I know what a difference an adjustable bed can make. I was feeling pretty blue the week before my surgery and bought an adjustable bed frame spur of the moment...just because...if I had to loose my uterus...I was going to splurge!!! It was worth every penny during my weeks of recovery!

Teacherbarbi...nausea can be a side effect to the anesthesia, but you should mention all of your after effects to your ... I got an upset tummy from the meds that I started with, but I also wasn't eating much either. My doc actually changed my meds day 3 of my recovery, so please mention to yours.
