Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

I'm at Day 4 Post-Op: was feeling okay until today. Maybe yesterday was a bit much; puttering around the house, got a flowers from my mom, & had In-laws visit.

Maybe the worst was a post-op Thank You card from the hospital congratulating my husband & I on our beautiful baby boy. Thanks, we are childfree; never wanted children but what a great way to make me feel like crap on Mother's Day weekend.

I've been sleeping a lot today & taking my percocet every 4 hours. Thankfully I'm also on ibuprofen & stool softeners.

My husband has been amazing & attentive. Our pets seem to understand "Don't lay on Mommy" and cuddle at my side.

My husband goes back to work tomorrow so I"m not looking forward to spending time at home alone but at least I have a stack of books & DVDs in queue and can phone him if I need anything.

*case of the blahs*

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

I'm now 5 days post-op, as my TAH was completed on Wed, May 9. The doctor left my ovaries, as they were healthy. My uterus and cervix were removed.

Initially, I had a lot of soreness, mainly after coming home and switching from the IV morphine to oral pain medications. Today is the first day I've felt somewhat normal. I'm walking around quite a bit, but still only drinking clear fluids... eating only soup and crackers. I've had lots of problems with gas. The doctor also informed me that one of the fibroids was much larger than they'd thought. So, the surgery was "tougher" than expected. Lots of tugging and cutting, internally, but things are going well.

My husband has been so supportive and helpful. I love that man so much, and thank God for him! He married me for better or for worse. His taking care of me in my "worse" definitely makes me want to give him better. My whole family, including my children and church family, have been wonderful. I'm so grateful!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Yesterday woke up with a little soreness (from laughing too much with my daughter the night before over my absent-mindedness). Had a good Mother's Day and enjoyed Chinese in bed with my daughter. Recovery still going well. Did break down for a short while yesterday over a silly thing. Was asked to handle something small, became overwhelmed and cried, "I'm still in recovery, I can barely handle myself, I can't handle this"! Daughter and H immediately got the picture . I took a nap and felt better. Had a nice visit in bed with my sister and received a potted mini rose plant from her and her boyfriend. My daughter brought me beautiful white flowers she picked for me (I love picked flowers).

Today I woke up shaky and felt like a bus had run me over. My H took daughter to school, served me breakfast in bed, we went for a short walk and I broke down over a very overwhelming situation with my son, while discussing it with my H. Can't understand why God feels I need to deal with this during my recovery. Please pray for my Son's situation and that it will resolve quickly, with everyone's best interest in mind, so I can get back to my recovery. He will be coming home to visit next Monday after 14 months and although I have wanted this so much, it has come at a very wrong time and I am filled with mixed emotions and anxiety. It will just be two weeks into recovery, I'm still stuck in bed most of the time, unable to drive and we have very important issues to deal with my Son's situation. Please pray that I hold it together.

My surgery/Pathology and hospital records are ready and will be mailed out to me today. Please pray that no invasive cancer was found, or that I somehow manage to deal with whatever comes next. I'm a bit nervous because my 4 week-pot-op appointment was moved up two weeks to 5/24, same day my daughter gets out for summer vacation. Hoping it was moved up because of surgery episode and to monitor my progress, and not for bad news.

Overall, still very happy with my recovery.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

Keeping each of you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope recovery continues to go well. I think I overdid it this weekend. Not feeling too well today and spent most of my time on the sofa today. My BM have definitely kicked in. And let me just say that it is not a good feeling...lots of cramping...feels like I'm giving birth. Also having quite a bit of lower back discomfort and pelvic cramps that just seem to have developed overnight. Gas issues seem lots better today though and the gall bladder surgery pain seems to be easing off a little bit. Overall, it's tolerable and I'm doing pretty good. Keep updating your recovery. This site is so helpful.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

SillyMonkeys, Teacherbabi thank you so much for thoughts and prayers. Teacherbabi, I guess our bodies have the Monday blues. I can't imagine how I could have overdone it, just laying in bed, but I'm sorry you are not feeling too well and experiencing such painful cramping. It's strange that even though we have similar surgeries, we have such different recovery experiences. I had some lower back pain on Friday. The funny thing is it started after my walk. I used my Hyster binder with a warm pack on my lower back and took my 600 IBU on schedule. I also changed positions and lay flat for a while with pillows under my knees. That seems to have done the trick. Just minimal soreness now. As mentioned in a previous post I also recline with a couple of regular horizontal pillows and a vertical one that I place starting on the small of my lower back and also support the rest of my back and head. When I am walking or mobile I put on the binder for support. Other than that my tummy pillow is always on tummy if reclining or under belly if on side. I am also continuing to drink lots of water. Hope some of this helps a bit.

Brc9601, sorry about your lacerated bladder, and catheter. Check with Dr, but probably not a bad idea to drink cranberry juice to try to prevent a UTI. I had it with my first cone biopsy, but fortunately not the second nor LAVH.

I continue to pray for all our improving recovery. Time seems to be rushing by. Soon we should hopefully feel so much better!

Brc.....I am so sorry to hear about your bladder. I hope that you continue to get a little better ech day and that you do not have to suffer any more consequences for your doctors error. Apollo, thanks for the good tips. I'll be sure to give them a try.
