Post -op tingling and numbness

My hysterectomy was 5/4/12 and I came home from the hospital 5/5/12. After one day home I had tingling and numbness all over. Called the Doc who said go to the ER. After ekg, xrays and ct scan all looked normal. Wondering if anyone else has this and can offer any help? Horrible feeling and hope it's only temporary. Trying to hang in there....

Re: Post -op tingling and numbness

I'm sorry you are going through this! You are very early post-op, but you might consider calling your GP and eventually seeing a neurologist if your symptoms don't subside. I had a somewhat similar experience - tingling / pins & needles / numbness started suddenly 2 months after my surgery. It was in my hands/arms and feet/legs. But it also extended to my head at times - very scary. A neurologist diagnosed me with carpal tunnel and similar nerve problems in my elbows and legs after a really "fun" nerve study. Big hugs and hang in there!!

Maybe it is a reaction to the pain meds they sent you home with? The RX Tramadol (Ultram) pills I went home with made my mouth tingle and my lips sort of felt a little swollen the first day and by the second day I was itchy all over. I stopped taking the pain meds and switched over to Tylenol and Motrin. The itches and tingling stopped. Did the ER check your meds to see if you were having an allergic reaction?

Re: Post -op tingling and numbness

My hysterectomy was 5/2/12. I woke up and I couldn't feel my hands. When I was finally able to my hands were numb for 2 days. I was in the hospital for almost 3 days. My nurse said it was from the meds they had me on.

Re: Post -op tingling and numbness

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit better since a few days have passed. Scarey was right, freaked me out. If I don't see continued improvement I will have to look into it further, but more Dr. apt's right now isn't high on my list. I'm sure yours either......

Re: Post -op tingling and numbness

I'm thinking it's a panic attack. I had them for days after my hyster. The doctor had to give me a Rx for a tranquilizer. Even my face when numb one day. All of the tingling and numbness went away when I took the tranquilizer, so i know mine was anxiety. The anxiety stopped about a week post surgery. I'm not sure what caused it. I've always had issue with anxiety, but this was intense. I had tinglings and numbness in my hands, feet, and face. It felt like a stroke.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks.....I'm feeling a little better with those symptoms anyway. Now I'm just starting to get ticked that my family has pretty much ignored the fact I just had surgery. Hubby is back to working 14 hrs a day and my kids haven't even asked how I'm doing or if I need anything. I know I'm doing too much already but if I don't do it, who will? Trying to rest also - woe is me right? Hope all the other ladies are doing well.

I am now home

I am home and doing ok. Just really sore. I have one problem though. After I came to in the recovery room I noticed my hands numb. I can't grasp anything and the tips of my thumbs are sore. I still have it and I think it's getting worse. The doctor says its nothing to worry about. Have any of y'all ever had this? It's crazy I can't do much with my hands. I drop whatever I pick up and forget opening anything. It's scaring me cause hubby goes back to work tomorrow.

Re: Post -op tingling and numbness

Hi there, I had the same tingling sensations in my legs after my TLH. It have something to do with nerves being cut during the surgery, because I see a
lot of us have this after the surgery. I actually still get this sensation from time to time and my surgery was 5/4/12.
