Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 14-May 20,2012

If your hysterectomy was between May 14-May 20,2012 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads will be moved at approximately 8 weeks post-op to the Date Club forum inside the HysterSisters clubhouse.

  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 14-May 20,2012

To the Post Op Forum!
The waiting is finally over and you've arrived safely on the other side!

This thread is your place to update us on how you're doing as you recover and begin to heal from surgery. We will be keeping you company during your initial recovery period. Remember initial recovery is 2 to 8 weeks, depending on your type of surgery. Full recovery may take up to a year.

Mrslibrarylady, along with myself, will be serving as your Resource Assistants. We will be checking in on the thread daily providing some answers, pointing you to other resources on the site and directing you to forums where you might get more answers from members farther along on their recovery journey. There are a lot of resources on this site, including videos, articles and web links and we want to help you find them.

When I think about my own recovery, I remember feeling very alone and was uncertain what to expect. This was my first major surgery and I don`t know anyone personally who has had a hysterectomy. I was amazed at how much I didn`t know. I found HysterSisters to be a community full of women who understood what I was going through physically and emotionally. It was a great relief to find that everything I was experiencing was normal. Everything I wondered, someone else was wondering too!

Initially we expect a lot of questions about:
swelly belly
gas
bathroom concerns
emotions
These things are all a normal part of recovery and most of us experience a few (if not all!) of these issues. You are not alone!

Remember to:
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Walk a bit
  • Rest
  • Put away your super-woman cape
  • And most importantly Pamper the Princess!
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your recovery journey!

I'm just betting that I'm the only princess that had an richter 4.5 earthquake to entertain me post op! I think there should be a special badge for that, lol! Was so weird to be off with the fairies on fentanyl whilst the earth moved. We have had lots (nearly 10,000) of aftershocks in the past year so its not really cause for comment. Post op I'm doing ok, but am needing that iv pain relief.
Huge thanks to my honey, who has held my hand all day. It's the best form of pain relief I reckon, love.
Love and gentle hugs for a speedy recovery to all. X

Hello everyone! First I want to wish everyone a speedy recovery! My surgery was yesterday. I had a vaginal partial hysteroctamy. The doc said things went REALLY well. I'm proud to say that I have yet to take anything for pain. I haven't passed gas yet though. Hopefully I will soon

Hope the aftershocks didn't bounce you out of bed while the Surgeons were working!

Hope you are soon off the iv and onto the hand holding type of pain relief.
TLC was my best cure
I have been looking at the smilies to see an appropriate medal, but nothing sprang to mind

I recommend lots of little walks. The pressure to pass gas can get intense.

At the hospital I was very self conscious about it and made them all laugh as I had to keep going to the bathroom to try and get rid of it. They all said they had the same problem, but were not so shy about it.

I did it! And oh my...you're right that was some intense pain! They also removed my cath and I was able to pee by myself twice...I still have a BM to go. I'm a little nervous about that.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 14-May 20,2012

Ladies,
That first BM can take a while to achieve. I had my first one at 6 days post op. I really didn`t want to ``push`` and hurt my internal stitches. Plus I was incredibly sore down there. The trauma of surgery and narcotic pain meds also slow things down.

Stool softeners and high fiber foods are your best friends right now.
