They all make me sick too, but the morphine seems to be doing the trick. I've also had the scope patch and a 2nd med I think is called zofram.

They didn't give me morphine as an option...I think it was because I was pretty clear that I didn't want anything too strong. I just know how sensitive my stomach is. Now it's not pain from surgery...it's headaches! I'll be glad when my recovery is all over!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 14-May 20,2012

Hello all!
Yesterday was my surgery at 7:30 a.m. and I was so proud of myself that I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be!! I had a tad bit of a nausea afterwards but the nurse made sure I had something right away. They also gave me a great cockatail before and during surgery, I had a great nurse!

I had a LASH: she removed my uterus, fallopian tubes but kept the cervix and ovaries. She also said I had an enterocele that she fixed. I had to google that and found that I guess my small bowel was protruding onto my uterus I think and that could explain for all the major low back pain I was having and feelings of fullness and blahh around trying to have a bowel movement.

So I basically slept like a log ALL DAY! I was given the opportunity to spend the night in the hospital but I wanted to come home. I think I slept so much thanks to the injection of Phenergan that the nurse gave me in recovery. That drug always knocks me out forever it seems but does wonders for nausea.

I have not had to take any pain meds except for some tylenol for my sore throat from the tube yesterday. I felt like I had to have a bowel movement this morning but barely had anything. That could be because I still hardly ate anything yesterday and the liquid diet the day of pre-op.

My husband and daughter have been angels so far just letting me sleep and keeping the dog off me. I plan to just be lazy today again and take it easy. I still feel sleepy. I so hope this will help! I am just so excited that it is over!!!!

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful support, encouragement, insight, and advice pre-op!!!

Sheila

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 14-May 20,2012

My surgery was Monday and I'm mostly doing pretty well. Occasional nausea, that belly heaviness and swelling everyone talks about, and some gas pain (though a lot of that is gone with burping/farting). I've stopped taking the hydrocodone she gave me, but still take the heavy duty Motrin. The thing that's bothering me the most is no BM. I keep feeling like maybe it'll come and it's just not. She told me to start taking stool softener in 2-3 days (which would've been Thurs or Friday), so I guess I shouldn't expect anything to move till today. But it's frustrating and worrisome. I've eaten a lot because I was really hungry. But nothing comes out;-) Anyway, thoughts to everyone for less pain and good biopsies, etc...I hear that week 2 is better, right?;-) Hang in there!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 14-May 20,2012

Hello sisters, well I Madelyn had my LAVD hysterectomy yesterday. I was surprised that my doctor could do mine that way. I had a very large uterus and several large fibroids. But now that its done I feel great. Very little pain right now. But last night I had some and was given Demarol. For pain in my iv. Only twice because it made my blood pressure drop down to 86/50. So had to switch meds. I am home and. Enjoying just site around, so glad I had it done, I am not on any HRT yet. Waiting until my 2 week check up........

I had vaginal hysterectomy uterus and cervix removed May 15. Surgery only took an hour. I woke up with horrendous back pain. They let me go home late that day. I couldn't get comfortable in the hospital bed and didn't get ahead of my pain until yesterday. I also have bad diarreah since yesterday. But, I do feel like I am improving a lot and each day is much better then the prior.
