returning to work question after robotic asst. hyster.

hello sisters,

Im getting closer to my DVH. (The robitic assistated TAH)

5/23/12. Im looking for some opinions. I know everyone heals different. But Im hoping to return to work for 2-3 hours on the 7th. day post-op. I work in a medical lab that requires me to be on my feet. Its not strenuous. But I will be standing. I am seeing my for a post op check the day before so she can see how im doing. My question is, am I out of my mind to think I can do this? I was hoping to work 2-3 hours 3 days a week starting 7 days post-op. then return full time on week 2. I can stretch out returning full time another week if i need to.
I really want to thank the sisters here for all your help it has helped me so much

Re: returning to work question after robotic asst. hyster.

I had DaVinci also. Everybody is different. You can not predict how you will feel at 1 week post op until you get there. Me, personally, could not have returned to work or anyplace else at 1 week. . My DH was still helping me in and out of bed, the shower, and the recliner at 1 week.It was all I could do to just walk to the bathroom and take some strolls around the house. My brain was foggy from the anesthesia for over 2 weeks. I could not even follow a simple TV program and couldn't even stand to converse on the phone. I had insomnia also.I couldn't have stood for an hour at a time without needing to rest at 1 week.

Re: returning to work question after robotic asst. hyster.

As Cathb says everyone is different, I was shopping 4 days post op. I have had an amazingly easy recovery and feel very blessed. I took 2 weeks 3 days off, could have gone to work sooner but thought I would take the time off to allow healing ( sadly i am actually probably less active at work than I am at home lol)

Re: returning to work question after robotic asst. hyster.

You just never know what's going to happen. I was doing well for the first 5 days after my dvH, then wound up with a post-op infection, fever, etc. That really set me back. I also had the same "brain fog" mentioned above. I'd recommend setting aside more time off than you need; it might be easier to return earlier than to stay home later, depending on your employer.

I had that surgery and its going to take longer than that you need to hell inside. And like the others at one week all you want to do is rest. Im physically fit. I run and work out two hours a day and I couldnt even walk to the kitchen. Lol take the time to heal and rest
