I've been researching orgasms after hysterectomy and only seem to find information on ladies who've kept their ovaries or had a partial hysterectomy. Anybody have a full hysterectomy and improved or kept having satisfying orgasms?
I had a TAH/BSO and my sex life has improved dramatically!! It is like night and day. I had very painful intercourse before my surgery and my libido was almost nothing (mostly due to pain and bleeding), but now....Libido is through the roof and my orgasms are much more frequent and WAY more intense!!
Not everyone is the same and yes, there are some women who experience some sort of sexual dysfunction after hysterectomy, but not everyone. In fact, I would say that the majority of us have improved sex lives or at the very least, unchanged. Please don't let the negative posts scare you too much. There are success stories out there!!! I am definitely one of them.
I had a full hysterectomy almost five months now. Mine are much better now! They are equivalent to what they were in my 20's, super strong. I'm turning 50 this year. So that's saying something! A friend of mine was a major national woman's health educator and she exposed how little people still know about women's anatomy. A lot of women think that a cervix or uterus are a critical part of creating orgasmic contractions. If that were the case, those of us who had everything removed including our cervix should be having no more orgasms, yet better or super strong ones. My friend taught that the contractions are actually initiated by a group of muscles that ring the vagina, urethra area. Those are not removed during our surgeries and in many cases have more room to contract once, say for instance, a huge fibroid uterus is removed that was pushing down on them. My orgasms were getting weaker by the year as my fibroid uterus kept growing to the point I had extremely weak contractions prior to the surgery. Now it's back to my 20's! Yipeee! Of course, remember you need to let yourself heal. The orgasms will only get better as you heal from the surgery. Those contracting muscles get roughed up during the surgery so they need to heal before you'll see what post surgery life is like.
That's great to hear because as you know there are lot's of negative stories about it. I am scared of getting back to bedroom activities after my TAH as my belly stills feels tender. I am six weeks post op today will be seeing my Gyno in a couple of weeks so will see what he has to say.
I'm so relieved to hear that! I can't thank everyone enough for being so positive and forthcoming. It's taken a huge weight off my mind. I'm totally in love with my husband and I wanted our sex life to be rich and fulfilling. This forum has been a God send.
Well 14 weeks post op after TAH removed everything and first time for bedroom activities pleasantly suprised although had a tiny bit of spotting after don't think it was anything to worry about (was just glad that I was still functional LOL)
I was shocked and suprised that, even with the nervousness of the first go of it in the bedroom, it was great! I had a full hysterectomy, including ovaries 8 weeks ago. I began hormone replacement at week 6. I had heard stories of decreased sex drive, less intense orgasm, dryness issues, etc. none of this was true for me. At 41, I was happy with our sex life and I was very apprehensive that things would change drastically. Needless to say I was elated to find myself feeling normal and sexy! He's pretty happy too!
