Bilateral oopherectomy still have Uterus

I need some adice. I had to have a bi-lateral salpingo oopherectomy a few years ago. My Dr. and I agreed to leave my uterus. I am now nervous and think that they should have removed it. Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice would be wonderful as I am so worried about this. I am 32 yrs old.

Thank you.

Re: Should I have uterus removed?

We do have members on the site who have had a BSO but still have their uterus. There can be a number of reasons for such a surgery.

A hysterectomy is a major surgery so you would need to carefully weigh your pros and cons before determining if it is right for you.

What worries you at this point? Why do you think you should now have your uterus removed?

Re: Should I have uterus removed?

Thank you for your response.

I am starting to have some pain around that area. Also, uterine fibroids run in my family. We have a genetic thing that causes them. I am worried that if something is wrong with it, since I don't have ovaries anymore that I won't know. I am so confused.

Re: Should I have uterus removed?

Hysterectomy is such major surgery with long recovery time. There are many pros and cons. How bad/often is your pain now? Is there a bleeding problem too? Any other symptoms. Fibroids are rarely cancerous, but has your doctor done any biopsies to check? Are fibroids the only problem? Research myomectomy and see if that is an option you want to explore.Keep us posted on your progress please!!Have you discussed removing the uterus with your doctor yet? If so what was his opinion?

Re: Should I have uterus removed?

Having your ovaries wouldn't necessarily tell you if something is wrong with your uterus, so not having them won't either.

One issue you could have is a build up of the endometrium if you are not using both estrogen replacement and cycling progesterone to force a period at least periodically.

Many women have fibroids they never treat, so having a fibroid is not necessarily a reason for a hysterectomy. There are also other treatment options for fibroids besides a hysterectomy.

Why don't you make a list of your concerns and then sit down and talk the doctor you trust most. Then you can go from there.
