Update on my bladder sling procedure

So it has been exactly a week since my surgery and this is the first time I have really wanted to get online. I was scheduled to have a LVAH and bladder sling put in on the 17th. I had no anxiety prior to the surgery and my biggest concern was being up at 5am...ugh. Pre-op went great. The anesthesiologist came by and he gave me some medicine for nausea (since I already knew I reacted poorly to anesthesia). I remember discussing the complications that could occur with both my doctors and I vaguely remember being wheeled into the hallway...but that is all.

Next thing I kind of remember is my husband standing over me in my room. I do not even remember being in the recovery room. My husband told me that there were complications with both procedures and I was under anesthesia for 2 hours longer than expected. That would explain why I could barely stay awake. Basically, due to my uterus being so small and sitting pretty far back in the cavity, the laproscopic procedure was not working so they ended up doing it abdominally. I knew this was a possibility so I was not too surprised. But then during the bladder sling procedure, my urologist nicked my urethra and I had to wear a catheter for a week while the nick healed. Needless to say because of the extra two hours of anesthesia, I felt like crap and pretty much barely remember Thursday and Friday. On Saturday they ended up having to give me a blood transfusion b/c my cell count was so low and I was just not recovering well.

After the blood transfusion, I really started to bounce back. It amazing how much better I felt. I was able to go home Sunday afternoon. Once I was home I slept another day and a half. I finally was coherent and feeling good by Tuesday, although the catheter was the biggest pain in the ***. I have no appetite, which contributes to some dizzy spells but I am feeling pretty good otherwise.

I had an appointment with my urologist today and the catheter came out (yeah). My doctor explained that the nick in my urethra should have been healed but if I was having trouble peeing to go to urgent care and have the catheter put back in for another week. Thanks god I was peeing on my own an hour later and have no problems since. I am starting to have some pain in my pubic bone area but it is completely manageable. I still take painkillers when I hurt but otherwise I am healing nicely.

Hope everyone else is as well.

Wow, you have been through a lot! I am so glad you got the catheter out and your urethra appears to have healed. Thanks for the update!
