Really worried (TMI, sorry)

Hey everybody. I have a scheduled SILS procedure on June 7th. I get so worked up about little things but here goes...I work at the hospital where I am having my surgery. It's a small hospital and most everybody knows everybody. I know what to anticipate surgery wise and know I am in good hands. My worry? I have hair, in places I don't think I should. Yuck, I know. I am so embarrassed about it . It makes me want to throw up thinking about that being seen by people I know/ work with. I know this sounds silly but I can't stop thinking about it. Anybody else with this issue?

I can't believe I am putting this out there but I didn't know where else to ask...Thanks.

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

Medical staff - doctors and nurses - have seen just about anything, and your hairiness is probably far more common than you think it is. And medical staff are not going to go blabbing to everyone about "ooh! she has such weird hair in strange places." First of all, it is probably not as strange as you think. Second, they are not going to violate your privacy that way. Third, they will probably not even give it a second thought because they will be focusing on the surgery site and on your care.

As I approached menopause I started getting more hairs on and under my chin that were dark and heavy instead of light and downy, and I can grow a pretty darn good moustache (much to my dismay)! I have discovered that other women a lot younger than me do waxing (OUCH!!!), use hair removal treatments (leaves me with red, burned skin for a few days), and such like.

The reason you aren't aware of other women with similar problems like yours is because everyone is discretely trying to keep it hidden. Get brave and say on this forum where you have unwanted hair, and I bet you dollars to donuts you will get a chorus of "me too!"

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

I don't think you're silly, I am booking a full leg and bikini wax the week before my procedure because I don't want them to think I have Yeti genes. But really, I know that will be the least of their worries because they are professionals. I guess we just gotta give our minds something to worry about and this is better than focusing on the surgery!

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

Thanks, you both made me feel a little better, but...

Ok, I am gonna be brave here...

It's around my bum hole . Does anybody else have hair here?? Nobody ever sees that, so I am really embarrassed and worried about when they prep me!!

Ugh, thanks for your help!

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

Ignorance is bliss. I also worried about mt coworkers seeing things I dont want them too. I just had surgery where I work. They aren't going to come up to you and say whoa girl we noticed ....... They have to many things to think about and who's to say they dont have any secrets? At my job hippa violation means instant termination. and as previously said they are professionals first and coworkers second.

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

I think everyone has hair around their bum hole.... some more then others. If you are embarrassed by it you can trim it yourself (very carefully) a few days before surgery. Also people can get waxed and have ALL the hair down there removed .
But I am with the others that the people in the OR room will have their focus on other things.
Do you work directly work with patients? Do you really notice things like that? And if you do you don't go tell everyone do you? I'm sure your coworkers are just as proffessional!

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

Dmmtj.....I can definitely tell you, I have hair there also, not just around the bum hole, it is growing out onto my butt cheeks. Sometimes as I get older and deal with these hormonal issues, I feel as if I likely have more hair on my rear than I do on my head. I can feel your pain in that regard. As my surgery date of July 6 approaches, I have more pressing thoughts of being naked on an operating table or my rear coming uncovered during recovery. Honestly though, I've heard a few of my friends commenting also about hair on their bottoms, so don't feel alone hun. The people you work with have seen it before, and it meant nothing to them. I can promise you at least a few of them also have the same. I always felt bad about mine and felt so alone, because of course nobody talks about this. One day, I double dog dared my brother (grown) to moon our mother, the nut actually did it. Welllll..... after it was over and she actually didn't kill him, she makes the remark to me that she has never seen anything that large and hairy in her entire life. I say...Mommy, it Had to come from somewhere. She just says.... Ahhhh, Lord and walks out of the room quietly. LMAO So, Now I know she likely had an issue also with it that she could never talk about her entire life. That hospital you work at I'm sure has done many of these surgeries, and I'm willing to bet you never heard anyone mention a hairy bottom on the operating table, and I guarantee you they've seen it. Honey, they are going to feel for you that much more, knowing how personal an issue all of this is even with strangers. I've taken great relief watching some you tube videos of the surgery, the patient is actually covered well except for the operating site. Sending you hugs and wishing you luck on your castle day. If it helps you any, think of my poor 70 something mother who made it all those years before the fateful day that I, the youngest of her 11 children finally called her out unintentionally.

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

robbielyn, never hesitate to private message me also if you need to hun. I am more than willing to share the good, the bad, and the ugly on here to help my fellow sisters get through! Fortunately or unfortunately, I'm not shy and I do tend to speak out loud what most people only let enter their minds but never leave their mouths. LOL Again, that probably comes from being the youngest of 11, privacy was unheard of in a house that size.

Re: Really worried (TMI, sorry)

IM not shy either nor private. I have a hard time understanding private people although respect that right of course, because we are all human all with similar issues. There is not an issue someone else in this world hasn't dealt with so I like laying it out there to get the help I need. I will PM u if need be. Tyvm.
