Took a walk, passed a lil gas, went peepee & nurses actually applauded!!! I get to go home in a few minutes!

I hope you ALL are having a positive day #1 like mine. I haven't had time to read all the posts yet, but I'm praying for & thinking of all of you!

Healing hugs...

I was expecting sever swelly belly & I've been so fortunate. No swelling after 32 hours. I hope it doesn't kick in later. I'm using ice blanket on the tummy anyway to relieve pain.
Still eating ice chips at home, but had a baked potato for dinner. Having no significant gas pain but I know when it's coming. Wow, this might be the only place I would ever announce that.
I am having no trouble walking or even climbing stairs at home, but I'm keeping it to a minimum and going really slow.

Being a person with acid reflux regardless of food/drink intake, that has been my biggest challenge. Every nap has to be elevated and I wake up gurgling and acid in my throat. I take protonix, but I'm adding Zantac until this gets better.

Best advice I can give to those prepping for upcoming surgery, who may be reading this, is to stay positive, be great to your nurses and take your favorite lip gloss, hair bow, whatever makes you feel pretty. I wore a lime green night gown and matching hair bow in a top-of-the-head ponytail, pink lip gloss & cute, brightly colored socks and took a bright, beach themed pillow from home. I wasn't "pretty" by any means, but the bright colors and fun patterns kept me in good spirits in the harder moments. The nurses said that regardless of how I might be feeling, I looked like I was having the best time of anyone else. I loved hearing that!

To those reading ahead who will have surgery soon, good luck and pamper yourself. To those, like me, newly out of the castle, I offer healing hugs and insist you let everyone else pamper you for a while!

Grace...your a hoot. Love your colorful ideas. All I had was m m's. Lol

Oh why oh why did I go out to get the paper? Smack me! I stepped on a bee. Right in bottom of foot. I was crying like a baby. Bring on the baking soda. Ouchy!

Doing good on pain. Only had two today. One at 8 and just now at 5. Gas is flowing out too.

My problem is getting comfortable to sleep. Can't sleep in bed. Never could when had csections until three weeks out. I'm in Brian's recliner lift chair. It goes up and down electronically. He says it makes too much noise. I'm trying. I know he's being sweet too. I'll be glad to get back in bed.

Take care all my sisters. Post between naps!

Well, it's over. I've been in a lot of pain, but it's under control now. They had me sitting up too long and that put too much pressure on things. Now I've been trying to find a comfy position.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 28-Jun 03,2012

Surgery for me went very well. Foley has been out since last night. I suck at the insentive spirometer. But burping like a sailor. Wishing I could fart. Had a roommate that had her tv up loud so not much sleep here. But she went home today, so tonight the possibility of some shut eye is in sight. I was supposed to go home this afternoon but I am running a fever. I won't be going home til tomorrow. Pain has been fairly controlled. I take the meds when they are offered. Been walking laps around the unit every few hours. Not much bleeding or spotting. Only one episode of nausea, right out in recovery. The CRNA gave me a patch behind my ear. I am really trying to not be a nurse and be a patient. But it's a tough endeavor. Sending warm wishes of smooth recoveries to my sisters!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 28-Jun 03,2012

Good evening ladies:O) Glad to see some of you have headed home and really excited to see more of you here to share your journies!! I'm sorry that some of you are experiencing strong bouts of nausea, hopeful it will calm down soon. Also it is very common in the days and even weeks after surgery to have a small attention span. Once the anesthesia gets out of your systems you should see an improvement. I see it as our bodies way of telling us to slow down and let it do it's job so we can get back to "normal". If you have been perusing this site you have probably seen the following phrase "you only have one chance to heal right". Please keep in mind this is a marathon not a race.

I wanted to post some tips, that have been posted by Danni(one of the hostesses) that she has shared on other threads. Before you make a movement such as trying to get out of bed or standing, take a deep breath and as you breathe out, make the movement. Dr told me that you can't tighten up your stomach muscles while breathing out and the pain is much less than it would be otherwise.

The other tip that I have picked up on this forum is one that helps you deal with gas. Wet a towel and heat in the microwave until hot, then wrap in a dry towel. Put that on your tummy or wherever you have gas pains. The damp heat will help draw out the gas. I hope that these tips help.

Wanted to add that there is no shame in taking the pain meds at the hospital or that your dr gives you to take home. Staying ahead of your pain will help greatly in your recovery.

Hvae a good night ladies, I will be checking in tomorrow night. Hugs to you all!!
