First shower today as well. Felt good. Not much on the hair tho.

I too am a side sleeper and I had to sleep in the recliner for the better part of 7 weeks:O( Not that I really got much sleep, but it helped me to get comfortable. Yea on the shower! Sometimes it's the little things that make us feel better.

hosta= green plant ... Really big leaves and has small purple flowers. I like to garden and was really glad to be back home to water plants today and pick cucumbers.

My OR team was awesome and funny. Doctor woke me up joking around about cheeseburgers (I had been fighting with the cafe about vegan meal plans) and anesthesia was being a general goof but is the best in the state ... Nurses were very good.

Glad everyone is ok.

I sleep better on my side as long as I raise the bed at the top.

Have not pooped still... Am a little afraid to... Will try stool softener tomorrow

Stool softener is great some mild cramping (I think more from surgery) but it was relatively pain free and no straining

Home and trying to rest. Pain not as bad as expected. Surgery went well, Dr. said it was bad in there lots of endometriosis, scar tissue, holes in uterus and abdominal wall. Prognosis was that I probably wouldn't have been able to have more kids anyway. I believe I made the right choice. Let the healing begin.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 28-Jun 03,2012

I ended up staying an extra night at the hospital. My Dr, my mom, my hubby and I decided that it would help me to have the extra babying from the hospital staff. My time between the pain meds keeps increasing...but I found if I wait too long the pain can come real fast and strong. No fun at all.

A lot of my pain in the last day was ggas pain and finally Friday afternoon I started passing gas. It felt wonderful to relieve the pressure. I never saw people so excited about me passing gas.

I go home later today. I'm excited to be going home and a bit nervous to be leaving a great nursing staff, but my mom will do a great job at my house. Best wishes to all my fellow recovering "sisters".

Anyone finding surprising support from some & lack of support from those closer?

My mom hasn't even checked on me since I left the hospital, but people I rarely see (spouses of husbands coworkers for example) have offered to shop for me, cook for me, clean for me. The most surprising people have checked on me...even a local radio host who happens to be a Facebook friend.

I guess you really find out where you stand with people, huh?

My husband & son have been the ones directly caring for me. My hubs has me med schedule set in his phone with alarms. They've steam cleaned carpet, done laundry, cooked, everything.

I'm going to try & walk more & shower today. I'm so weak, I've been afraid to shower. Hubs will help. Poor guy. I owe him big time. He's volunteered to shave my legs until bending over doesn't hurt. He's terrified of cutting me but stepped up for the job!
In 1 week, we go to Florida. The salt air & ocean breeze will heal me, even if I'm enjoying them from a condo patio. I'll add an umbrella to my water bottle & be in paradise.
Hugs to you all!!!

Thanks for the info!

As far as BM's go it may be a few more days til it happens, try not to sweat it too bad, unless you are feeling uncomfortable. During surgery our bowels are packed into our chests and need some time to readjust, plus most of us have had liquid diets or have loss of appetite from anesthesia, so the need for a BM is always there soon. Keep drinking plenty of water and walking when you feel up to it.

Caaugust, WELCOME!! Glad you are home and resting well!

Singer_chic, yea on the passing gas and it does feel wonderful when it happens, lol. Have a safe ride home.

Grace72, Unfortunately a lot of us sisters have experienced the same in regards to support. My mom lives right next door and hardly checked up on me, nor did she visit me in the hospital. I do know that some people are just unsure of what we need or feel the surgery was so personal that they act like it never happened. Glad that hubby and son are stepping up and taking great care of you!

Have you spoken to your dr about traveling so soon after surgery? I am glad to see that you still plan ontaking it easy when you get there. I live about 8 minutes from the ocean and I do think there is some magical healing properties to it. It just brings a calm over you.

Ode to a fart...

Normally I am ashamed of you, but today, I let you rip with wild abandon. The moan of joy that escaped my lips must have surely scared my dogs and children.

Going up the stairs is killing me. To the point of tears and making my husband worry. So I am kinda stuck upstairs. I've made it a point to walk the hallway between the bedrooms every time I get up to pee.

Normally I am a side sleeper, but I wasn't able to do it after surgery til I read all your pillow tips. So thanks for that. I've got this pillow fort around me. And a "Great Wall O' Pillow" separating my husband and myself.

Got to rest up today so that my warden, I mean my adorable husband, will let me downstairs to see my daughter graduate from high school tomorrow.
