7 weeks, had small blood after BM.. freaking

Well, I had my 6 week post op last week... all clear.. good... had sex for the first time this weekend... good! No worries. Even went for a powerwalk. I could feel I may have over did... but took it easy the next day... today, all good. Well, this pm, had a small BM, and strained abit ( I have not been taking my fiber or stool softener and should be!!)... and saw some blood when I wiped... looked old.... should I be freaking out/?? My mom said not to be... and to take my fiber/ stool softener.. I have not spotted for almost 2 weeks, when wiping.... and thought after dr. I was clear!! I knew maybe after sex, I might encounter some blood, but even after, I was fine... anyone else experience some bloody w/ BM at 6 weeks +?????

Re: 7 weeks, had small blood after BM.. freaking

I'm glad you asked this. I've been wondering the same thing. I started seeing some pinkish colored blood after bowel movements starting about 9 or 10 weeks out. And it was always after I had strained. I followed up with my doctor who found that part of my vaginal cuff had "separated" and I did need that repaired. Mine definitely was "new" blood, however, not old like yours. Maybe you did have a bit of bleeding after sex which didn't actually show up until you "strained" it out with your bowel movement???? (I'm obviously not a medical person!) I would just check with your doctor if it continues or you are stressed about it.

Could I just ask what the repair entailed please? Have similar symptoms at the moment ( bleeding began 8 weeks post op following bowel movement) and I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning.
Thanks,
Mokie

Re: 7 weeks, had small blood after BM.. freaking

My doctor did the repair under general anesthesia. He said it was about a 15 minute procedure that would be too painful to do in the office. I was able to go home shortly afterwards (after the usual peeing, walking around the nurses desk, etc.). I see him again after 6 weeks. The only restriction I have is no intercourse until after that. You can be sure I'm waiting longer - my husband is getting used to it!

All in all, it wasn't bad. When I first called his office about the spotting, the nurse said it was probably granulation and for that, I understand, they use silver nitrate (in the office). So I don't want to scare anyone! Lots of other things can be going on. This was just my experience! I'll be interested in hearing what both of yours ends up to be.

Newme63 - I did have an internal exam at about 6 weeks. At that time, I still had a couple of stitches that hadn't dissolved. He lifted all my restrictions at that time except for intercourse. But he restricts that for anyone until 9 weeks out.

I would all your doctor and ask just to be safe, especially if your planning on going out f town.I'd also hold off on sex a bit longer, just so you can see if the bleeding continues even without sex. I'm not a doctor, but blood in your stool is definitely something your doctor needs to know about and advise you on.

Re: 7 weeks, had small blood after BM.. freaking

Just thought I'd update after my GP appointment. Have a course of antibiotics as the doctor said this was the most hopeful problem i.e that the BM dislodged a stitch which may turn into an infection if untreated. Worst case scenario is a granuloma (granulation) which he said he can't do anything about and for that I'd have to go back to gynae.
So, I have to wait 7 to 10 days and keep fingers crossed the bleeding stops.
It's been 7 days now, just a steady trickle, nothing copious but red rather than rusty :0(
No internal exam, hoping the antibiotics will calm everything down so I won't need further treatment. Pretty miserable as I thought I was fighting fit until last week.

I'd give your surgeon/gynecologist a call just to double check. If your GP didn't do an internal and is telling you it's maybe granulation or a popped stitch your surgeon should be consulted and make the decision if it needs to be fixed.
