Vaginal packing with TAH??

I have read on some posts about packing after their hyst. Now would that only apply to vaginal hysts?

My date is 2 weeks away and since Christmas is over and done with I'm a bag of nerves!! Since I'm looking forward to having it over with, I'm surprised I'm having a hard time sleeping. My mind just gets into over-drive and next thing I know its 3:30am!!

Has anyone had to get something to help them sleep and if so, would I be able to take something the night before my surgery.
This site is truly a godsend. I would not have been even HALF prepared had I not been inhaling everything for the last two months. Thank you so much.

Vaginal packing with TAH??

I'm pretty sure the vaginal packing is for those with vaginal hysts. I had abdominal, and didn't have any packing.

Some of the ladies have stated here that they got something to relax them and/or help them sleep before surgery. I wish I had done that too, because I was a bundle of nerves!!!

Hang in there - this will all be behind you before you know it!!!

Vaginal packing with TAH??

Hi Lisa!

I have never heard of anyone with TAH having vaginal packing - but I guess anything is possible. I had TAH/BSO and certainly did not have any packing.

I can certainly relate to the nerves and trouble sleeping and trouble focusing prior to my surgery, too! I think we can all pretty much say that. One really helpful idea I've heard is to NOT look at the clock as you are lying in bed trying to sleep.

Another idea is to watch TV (maybe an old, boring movie) or read.

Regarding the night before surgery, talk to the DR and let her/him know how you're feeling, and see if there is any suggestion.

If you haven't had a chance to go to the PRE-OP forum, there are lots of gals there who are sitting right where you are and can really relate to how you are feeling right now.

Hang in there, sweetie - we'll be right here for ya!

Vaginal packing with TAH??

(((Lisa))) I remember those jitters very well. Hang in there, your wait is almost over. Before you know it, you'll be a crowned well on your way to recovery.

I had a TVH with repairs and had the packing. I remember asking the very same question, when I was pre-op --- was scheduled for a TAH --- and being told that packing was for TVH. However, since I was also having the repair, I would probably have had tue packing.

Regarding meds for relaxation, others have gone that route. You'd have to get the prescription from your surgeon and to ask for specific instructions as to when you have to quit taking them. Some meds interfere with the anesthesia and other meds you will be getting in the castle and could lead to serious complications.

Wishing you the best of luck. We'll be with you every step of the way.

No Vaginal Packing

I had TAH and didn't have vaginal packing.

The hospital where I had my TAH done apparently doesn't do vaginal packings anymore. And neither does the hospital shave our "bushes" anymore either.

It's hard to relax the night before surgery. But it's comforting to know that you can sleep all you want after surgery anyway. I didn't take anything the night before surgery, but my anesthesiologist did give me a "feel good" cocktail thru my IV before I was wheeled down a very long hall into the OR.
