Other options maybe myomectomy

Was Just denied payment by my insurance for my hysterectomy that was scheduled for tuesday..So Dr. Called and wants me to come in for a consultation on possible Miomectomy instead of Hysterectomy, guess there is a better chance that insurance will approve that..Wondering how difficult and painful this surgery is compared to hysterectomy..Anyone had this done?

There are women on the site who have had a successful myomectomy and you can find some of their stories in the Options and Alternatives Success Stories forum.

Before scheduling a myomectomy, which is a major surgery, I would suggest you consider other, less invasive treatment options. Additionally, if you have not had a second opinion, get one. An insurance company is more likely to approve a procedure recommended by more than one doctor. Also, trying other options can prove that a major surgery is necessary. You should also be keeping a detailed symptom diary which you share with your doctor and which could become part of your file to be used to justify treatments.

Finally, you should also consider appealing your insurance company's decision. It is possible your doctor did not submit enough information for them to deem surgery necessary. Appealing also should have your request reviewed by a doctor employed by the insurance company. Many of us have appealed one thing or another successfully.

If the reason for your surgery is fibroids, you might want to check out the Fibroid section of our Resource Database.

in there!
