return to work??? December surgery

I have had my 6 week doc visit. I had a sono gram as I am still swollen on my right side where they took my ovary. Kept other one. When I told doct I was eager to get back to work next Thursday (1 week) she advise me to wait (2 weeks) as the swelling and healing is still going on and she does not want me to over do it.

How long was everyone else off work?

Some day I feel I can conquer the world and other days I want to just lay around. I can build up my strengh.

December 7 was my visit ot the castle with bladder tack, uterius out, right uterius out and postier repair.

Take care

return to work??? December surgery

Hi There!

I hope you don't gauge your return to work by others - our surgeries may be called the same by name, but each of us is very unique in specific maneuvers required while in OR.

You can find gals who returned to work very early (too early, in my opinion) - and some gals who did not return for 10 weeks. That's a very wide spectrum.

I returned to work 1/2 days at 8 weeks.

I hope you follow your DR's recommendation and wait it out, since this is your one chance to heal.

You are very smart to begin gradually resuming activity, slowly. Build your strength back up and don't push too hard. Take your time and take good care of yourself.

Make sure that you are ready.

I am taking a full 8 weeks off. I never take a day off usually and had a load of sick days available. I work in a school and don't want to take a chance on returning too early. Some of our kids can get violent and need restraint and such. I refuse to injure myself so I will make sure that I am properly healed. I would love to go back and just work in my office but I tried that when I was ill before the surgery. I also went back too quickly from an earlier surgery in Oct. Many of my colleagues (although they mean well) really didn't recognize that I couldn't stay on my feet and work in a physical mode because of pain and excessive bleeding. Colleagues basically see a body and expect top notch performance. They don't recognize someone who is really ill but trying to do all that is physically possible. Some can be inconsiderate and not even know it. I can be guilty of that too I guess but I promise to get better with my employees. My doctor also felt that 8 weeks was best for me and released me in mid Feb. Too much activity could cause hernias and other complications that I don't want to contend with. :jumping:

return to work??? December surgery

Hi Limet,

If your doctor wants you to take another 2 weeks off of work, then that's probably what you really should try to do. Everyone heals differently, and you had a couple of extra things done to you (the bladder tack & the posterior repair).

I went back at 5 1/2 weeks but wished I could have stayed out a little bit longer. When you are released to go back, see if you can start out with 1/2 days, if possible. I went back full-time and probably shouldn't have.

Good luck to you, rest all you can now, before having to go back.

return to work??? December surgery

Boy, everyone is so different and the surgeries all have their variations ....

I had a TAH/BSO 7 weeks ago (as of tomorrow). I went back to work on Tuesday this week, so that was almost 7 weeks. I probably could have worked 1/2 days last week but like some of the other ladies, I have nearly 25 years of service with my company and am eligible for a lot of sick time so I figured, this is my one chance to make sure I heal right ... I'm not pushing it.

I'm glad I waited... things are really crazy at work and they pretty much expect me to be at full speed already. The first day was a killer (I really wanted to lay down at about 3 pm), but today was much better. Last night I slept on the couch as soon as I got home, then got up and went to bed for more sleep. My belly really hurt yesterday, but it's okay today.

Good luck with your return to work, ladies! Getting back to "normal" is feeling good to me!

I seem to have had a very easy recovery period as I didn't need any pain medication after the first day in the hospital and wasn't even given any to take home when I was released after five days. So I was tempted to go back at five or six weeks, but several people have told me to take eight full weeks since my job is somewhat physical and I'll never get the chance to rest like this again. So I probably will. But I do feel great and it gets better each day.
