cystocele, rectocele repairs WITHOUT mesh?

I had mesh surgery for a cystocele in Oct. 2010....it eroded within 3 weeks...Had my 1st removal in Feb 2011.....I had 2 more removal surgeries and an emergency cauterization in an E.R. due to vaginal bleeding in excess of 5 pads within a couple of hours (scary since I had a hysterectomy in 1997). After the cauterization...I woke up in the hospital with really bad back pain....stood up and evidently had 2 softball size hematomas rupture. It looked like a slaughterhouse. (That evening the hospital did a CT scan which confirmed the hematomas and I was also found to have an enlarged spleen). Well, besides the groin and back pain that I have had since the first day the mesh was put in, the removal surgeries as well as 4 months of vaginal floor therapy (omg), I now have a recurring cystocele and now a new rectocele...which has left me with 2 episodes of stool incontinence in the past 2 weeks. I have handled enough and I am tired of hurting..but now...to be pooping on myself at age 48!!! I need a doctor who can help me as my previous urogyn said that she could do another surgery...but she only uses mesh. Could someone please give me some advice as to where I can get a safe, knowledgeable and caring physician who performs cystocele, rectocele repairs WITHOUT mesh? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I just had a cystocele and rectocele repair without mesh. Not sure where you are, but check with the larger hospitals in your area to see if they have a pelvic floor specialist group. Find other urogyn's in your local directories and call to find out how they repair prolapse. I'm sorry you are going through this after all this time. Keep strong and hopefully you will find the right doctor to perform the right kind a fixes

I had repairs without mesh as well. My surgeon specializes is cancer patients and does a lot of repair work. Do you have a primary doctor you trust who can make recommendations?

I had my repair surgeries without mesh (if we don't could the tension-free vaginal tape). My surgeon said that determination to use mesh or not was dependent on tissue quality.

I'm not sure where your location is but I'm in NYC and am having bovine mesh put on on 7/16 at < >. My doc (whom I think is the most amazing doctor I've ever met) told me that the bovine dissolves completely within 6 months. I guess it supports until your own muscles strengthen. I know there is more to it but see if it's an option. Good luck to you!
