losing last ovary June 14 2012

Hi , Ive had a TAH and right side oopherectomy due to fibroids, and a large cyst on ovary. Now my left ovary has a giant cyst (13cm) on it and i'm going for surgery on the June 14 2012. I'm concerned about how I will feel when I wake up from surgery. Will I feel the immediate affects of menopause or does it take a while to show up? My Doc has discussed HRT patch in the hospital after surgery already. I'm kind of nervous about what to expect . Any one out there with this experience? Thanks

Re: losing last ovary June 14 2012

From what I read, it seems to depend on your age somewhat.

I will be 49 this month. I had both ovaries removed 3 weeks ago. I just started having hot flashes 3 days ago. But have had night sweats for about 3 years. The hot flashes are not that bad, and have been manageable. Because of my adeno and age, Dr and I have discussed trying NOT to go on HRT. But he definitely wants to wait 2 months before HRT if I feel I need it.

when you get your pathology report you can see what it says too.
I think it helped to read that my ovaries had atrophied. So how much function was a really getting from them anyway?

Re: losing last ovary June 14 2012

It was around 2 weeks for me. I wasnt expecting it but for me hot flashes for some reason brought on anxiety. Not everyone gets this I was getting them before surgery so I wasnt to concerned then got whamed with one. You will be ok.. Im just one of those tough cases. I use vivelle patch and gel and that seems to work for me. Hope all goes well with your surgery.
