Got my path report, have questions?

HPV since 2008. Abnormal paps/biopsy since with results-ASC-US. Last pap in Feb 2012 came back possible high-grade lesions. My gyn for the last 15 yrs referred me to new gyn... Went in May 28, 2012, got a LEEP-D&C done outpt. On May 30, 2012 received the call that I need to consider a hysterectomy. Had my path report faxed to me. Results reads..."cervix, conization-severe squamous dysplasia/carcinoma in situ/CIN III, with extension to endocervical margin, no invasive malignancy identified" I have discussed this with a few professionals and all agree that this can spread if the hysterectomy is not done. Set up surgery for June 18-19, 2012. Now what, age 30? What am I facing? What questions should I ask? Recovery?

Re: Got my path report, have questions?

Hello
I had a hysterectomy a week ago as I had high grade abnormal cells at least CIN III. I had a total hyst incl cervix and ovaries removed. I had loads of questions beforehand mostly was worried that I was going to turn into a miserable old lady overnight but I'm very pleased to say I feel exactly the same. I had laparoscopic surgery so only have 4 small incisions, emotionally I've been fine and still have the normal urges as far as my husband is concerned - have to wait another 5 weeks at least tho! All in all my experience hasn't been half as bad as I was expecting but I would recommend keeping on top of pain killers as I have.
Wishing you all,the best x

Re: Got my path report, have questions?

Hi mymartin. I'm sorry you are dealing with this decision. It's not an easy surgery, but doable. I was 42 when I had a radical hysterectomy for 1b1 cc. As far as questions to ask, until they do the hysterectomy and you get the path report back from that, I'm not sure what to ask at this point. Maybe someone else will be better with that. Are you having a gynecologist oncologist do the surgery? They are the experts in female cancers. As far as feeling different after surgery, I feel basically the same. I am on premarin for estrogen and don't get any hot flashes or anything. I do feel like I have less energy, but I had radiation and chemo, so it's hard to say whats from what. You can do this! We will all be here for you.

Re: Got my path report, have questions?

Mymartin

I am sorry to hear that your condition has progressed to this point at a young age.

Here is a set of questions, some will apply and some won't buut it is a starting point questions to ask

As far ae recovery check out the Hysterectomy Checkpoints that will give you some information. Of course that does not include if you are recommended for further treatment such as brachytherapy.

This should give you a starting point.
