? options

Hi there, I am booked for a hysterectomy on June 14th, but am starting to question if there is other options. I dont have the usual problems that would suggest a hysterectomy but my GYN suggested it anyways. My issue is that when I am in sitting position my cervix pushes against my bowel and blocks it, making bowel movements almost impossible. Has anyone ever heard of this. My GYN hasnt and it just assuming a hysterectomy will fix it. Feeling very frustrated with this uncertainty!

Re: ? options

You might want to get another opinion. I would want some more input about whether a hyst will fix this problem. It may but this is major surgery and I would want another doc who has seen this to give me some input as to what to do. You don't want surgery if it won't fix the problem.

Re: ? options

My rectum had slightly prolapsed after my 3rd pregnancy. To get a bowel movement out I had to wrap my hand in toilet paper and use my hand to put pressure on my perinium. It was almost impossible to get anything out without pressing on my perinium and even vaginal area. Is it possible that is what is happening to you? Did your doctor say that your cervix is pressing on your bowels, or was that your best guess as to what is going on? Have you been checked for endometriosis? That can grow on your bowels and cause problems? Have you seen a gastrologist and had a colonoscopy to rule out a bowel problem?

Re: ? options

I think you should definitely seek a second opinion on this. It does sound like it's causing bowel problems, which I suppose could be serious in the long run.

Hi,
I was told that I have a small rectocele but likely the cause of the issue. With the internal exam the md is sure it is the cervix. I also went through a colonoscopy and a defogram( which was not pleasant:-)) and all was ok with both. It's frustrating as the gyn has never heard of this before. Thanks for your reply!

Re: ? options

Based off what you're saying and my own experience, I do think it's very possible that you may find relief with a hysterectomy. Even though I had to splint myself with every bowel movement, my rectocele was very mild as well. All of our bodies are different. Some women with mild rectocele have bad symptoms, and some with severe rectocele have mild symptoms.
